The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating and the food was spectacular, particularly the salad. There was a mix up with our order and the waitress was quick to correct the issue and was even kind enough to take the meal off our bill. Management clearly care about the customers experience and what they did was very kind. I highly reccommend supporting this business.
All of the food was cooked well, it was just a little bland. Had the fish goujons, which were fried well, but the tartar sauce was below average, the prawns could have used a lot more garlic and salt, and a lot less butter, the ribs fell off the bone, but the sauce needed more zing. The kids meal of chicken tenders was good, and the chips were great. The salad dressing needed an acid.
Both the lamb and fish of the day were delicious. There were bluff oysters but they came in half a dozen orders. I would have liked to just try a couple. Pretty lively atmosphere and great beers to round it out.Food: 5/5

Suggest to book table in advance. We were lucky enough to get the last table. The food was great especially the cod was fresh and moist

I don't like giving bad reviews but this place, we were the first people here it seemed but we got our food like 35 mins after ordering we ordered a bacon, sausage and egg butty and eggs benedict so shouldn't take that long considering we were the only ones ordering at the time also people who came later got their food first, we ordered tea, asked for milk and sugar and had to go in because they forgot, bacon was just fat, I mean like and entire slice of bacon was just fat, the dire amount of hollandaise sauce like it was the last make in new zeland it was also oddly grainy. On a positive the eggs were proper runny but I feel there's much better places to go, especially as this cost $53.. not the most expensive but I'd expect more. The only reason we ate all/what we could was being were travelling up to Christchurch and knew we weren't eating again for a while but tbf wish we just stopped at maccas in timaru..
Visited on a Friday evening and enjoyed the food and service. The pork ribs were the best I have tasted for a long time and the roast vegetable salad was excellent too. We also enjoyed a mulled wine and pale ale. Recommend this restaurant.Food: 5/5
We dined here on 4 January this year. The service and food was extremely sub par considering the price. Reading through recent reviews I am surprised that so many have loved the food and commented on how great the service was. However I did find a review from around the time we dined that sounds like they experienced something similar to us. So maybe there were different staff on at the time. We let the waitress know we were not overly happy with the food, she didn't seem to really care and did nothing to try and rectify things.
Have just had a night out at Trout and had a great night with friends. We were greeted by the friendly staff and seated at a table that looked out over the lake and mountains, very spectacular!! Our meal was superb, service was great and we will certainly be back. Thank you all at Trout.Recommended dishesSuper Fresh Seafood
