Totally Northland Homebased Childcare is a homebased childcare service approved by the Ministry of Education.
Our programme covers a wide range of natural experiences in a rural environment. There are many gardening opportunities; planting, picking and eating! Animals include sheep, chickens, turtles; feeding them or collecting eggs. Project work; clay projects, sunflowers, building a bonfire or building huts. Science is popular and fun; as one boy said "it's so exciting when you do a science experiment you haven't done before. And loads more.
The programme is based on inquiry learning, individual interests, building relationships and parent input encouraged. We follow the NZ Early Childhood Curriculum, Te Whaariki, a project approach and developing practical life skills.
We are also very involved in our community, visiting many local areas of interest such as Puketi Forest and Rolands Woods; we have been to the beach and the saw mill to name a few. Children can go to swimming lessons, music and movement, the gym, the library; you name it, we go there.
All educators have some training or are in training and there is a full qualified co-ordinator and service provider. We provide portfolios for the children with learning outcomes; there is a comprehensive set of policies and regular newsletters are sent to parents. Professional Development opportunities are provided for educators as well.
