Toi Māori is committed to supporting and developing
Contemporary Māori Art
Toi Māori Aotearoa was set up in 1996 and strives to promote, advocate and develop the best of Māori art and culture.
Toi Māori promotes Contemporary Māori arts through programmes and projects that reach and expands audiences. It has organised and been involved in events in New Zealand and Internationally.
In more recent years, it has developed an agency role providing artists for publications, exhibitions, performances and promotions, while building relationships with venues, producers, presenters, and curators of Māori arts. Increasingly, new Māori artist groups have been established through shared art practice, regions and iwi. Toi Māori Aotearoa look to such groups for partnerships and joint ventures.
A governing board comprising Kaitiaki nominated by the ten National Artform Committees attends to governance issues. The General Manager and representatives of the ten committees form the Toi Māori Management Team which implements the overall programme of activities.
Toi Māori Aotearoa exists to promote the vital, potent art and culture of a thriving contemporary people called Māori.
