We visited here tonight and ate a hearty dinner. They have a kids menu which is always a winner! Traditional pub food at reasonable prices. Hamburgers, bangers and mash, nachos etc. The cocktails were good at about $16 each. Upstairs is a pool table and dart board for those wanting to settle in for a couple of hours. Great location in Devonport.
This establishment could be a gem, but needs improvement. I took my partner there to enjoy a meal before catching the ferry back to Auckland CBD. We both ordered the seafood, chips and salad. I chose deep fried, while my partner chose pan fried. Sadly, the fish wasn't fresh, it was grossly over cooked, leaving it dry and stringy. Both plates were lacking. Even the chips had an unexpected proportion of tiny chips that shattered if you tried to pick them up with a fork. The salad was fresh, tasty and thankfully erased the taste of the fish I tried, before deciding it wasn't worth finishing. Parking: Parking is limited due to popularity of local shopping. Wheelchair accessibility: From my experience there are several large steps to enter reception area. No ramps visible.
Local pub in what was originally a Bank of New Zealand building. Selection of on tap and bottle beers plus wine. Pub style bar meals at reasonable cost, we went twice during our stay in Devonport, cheery and friendly staff.
The Patriot is an awesome pub that provides more than just good drinks and food. The experience is genuinely personalized, making it feel like more of a community gathering place. Fantastic customer service is something worth mentioning, as the staff at The Patriot is among the best in Devonport. Their commitment to excellent service is evident from the moment a customer walks through the door. Very polite, constantly clearing glassware. Went here for a drink after work last Friday. The owner's involvement and interest in the customer's opinion regarding the new loyalty initiative speaks volumes about his dedication and commitment to customers' satisfaction. He makes sure that every customer feels welcomed, making their experience even more enjoyable. In terms of space, the pub has plenty of it, both indoors and outdoors. It's perfect for any occasion, whether it's a small group or a large gathering, making it a great place to organize events. The prices on drinks are reasonable, ensuring that customers can enjoy a good time without breaking the bank. The Patriot pub offers a range of options, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, making it accessible to everyone. Overall, my verdict is that The Patriot in Devonport is a must-visit pub. The fantastic customer service, reasonable prices, great owner involvement, and ample space make it an excellent pub to socialize with friends over food and drinks. Highly recommended and will definitely be back. Parking: It can be hard to find parking during peak times. However, there are usually heaps of parking by the library.
Returned to what was my local after 15 years. Exactly the same. Tired and rundown. Staff the only redeeming feature. Toilets less than impressive. For where it is, needs a reno. Looks good on the outside though.Service: 4/5
I was immediately in love with the Patriot as a simple beer drinking haunt the moment I walked around and found they had like 4 or more seating areas, particularly the couch inside and the spacious back patio. There was also the upstairs indoor patio with a TV and pool table. We were looking for a place we could chat about work projects and because this place had so much room, it was perfect for us to be able to find space where it wasn't too noisy - we had room all to ourselves. Definitely coming back again any time I want a simple drink and a place to sit back and talk.
Wednesday evening! Amazing Pork Belly! Great service from the Duty Manager. She does an amazing job. Unfortunately she has to make double the effort, because Mrs Peace is….just that….peacefully floating around. Serves me my food without cutlery. I signal to her standing on the other side of the room cutlery please, she nods, but never return with cutlery.
My partner and I had a dinner at here on last Wednesday, so lovely place.and the waiter with curly hair is so cute, and he really given us good service and patience. I speak English not well but I feel here like my home. Steak& Guinness pie was great, and fried fish and chip with salad was wonderful. I will come back again and again. Enjoy here every moment with my partner, definitely 5 stars
First time visit for us as part of a small family group, friendly staff created a table for us and our meals came out quickly. Both steaks were cooked to perfection, the schnitzel was enjoyed and the chicken parm was really nice. Thanks guys!
We were looking forward to supporting a local English style pub. It was one of Auckland's coldest winter days and we imagined we'd be going into what we thought would be a warm, cosy pub with hearty hot food. Unfortunately the Patriot isn't one of those places. The venue is cold. draughty and noisy. Even thought the fire was on it wasn't adequate to heat such a large, draughty space with a high ceiling. The situation isn't helped by the rear door being left open all the time by patrons exiting from another space and walking through the main area. We ordered our food and drinks. The staff are polite and friendly; We waited quite a long time for our food to arrive I estimate between 30-45 minutes and when it did arrive, only mine was served. My friends meal was missing, so after a while we enquired and was told there was some mistake with the order. I had to eat my meal on my own while my friend looked on wondering how long his would take. My meal was ok, but as I waited for my friends to arrive, it had started to go cold. I ordered the Pie, mash and peas and gravy, which was good value at $20. When his did arrive the pasta he was not very impressed as the serving was quite small, and after the long wait for it was disappointing. It was $26. I noticed he ate the whole thing in about 5 minutes. To be honest, had we not paid in advance we'd have probably just walked out. I do wish the owners well, but the whole experience just wasn't worth it for us and one we wouldn't want to repeat, nor recommend to anyone.
