What a beautiful place to stay! It was such a shame that we got in late after a concert and were back on the road by 7:30am so did not get enjoy this place as much as we would have liked! We had a fantastic room and awesome to have a kitchen and coffee/tea station just down the hall which had everything we needed. Beautiful lounge also with a fire. Would definitely recommend!
We had an excellent 1 night stay after visiting moeraki boulders. Room was warmed up before arrival and the heaters were more than adequate for winter stay. Helpful polite and friendly receptionist who helped us with planning our routes since there were reports of bad weather and snow. Highly recommend. Price is super reasonable. 5 star
Beautiful place! You don't sleep in Historic Mill House. There are very nice motel-like rooms next to the mill house that are more like small apartments with everything you need for a great stay. I would stay here again and plan to recommend it to anyone looking to stay in the area. The owners are very friendly and the check-in process was done very quickly.
Stayed here a couple of times in 2018. Once for a weekend away and once after a concert in Dunedin. Very friendly host. Rooms in the old mill house and the motel unit is are tidy and comfortable.
Nice place. I'd stay here again. Comfy bed. Good shower. Plenty of good local knowledge if you ask at the check-in. Easy to find, plenty of parking. Nice places to eat within a 10minute drive. Good hotel and location.
Beautiful building. My Great great grandfather built this mill and it's wonderful to see another building of his standing the test of time. Would recommend staying or holding a function at this venue.
We reserved months in advance. Upon arriving, we found the place empty and a CLOSED sign on the door. We followed the instructions on the sign and went to the other establishment... only to find that there were no rooms there either. The owner ended up putting us in an empty old house. He then came in and wrenched on the hot water heater for a while until he got the hot water running. I asked him if we could get some bottled water. Nope. We arrived in the evening, expecting a hotel with a restaurant and other ammenities bottled water, etc. We had 2 hungry kids and nowhere for miles to get food. When the Mill House was closed, the owner should've called us. He did not. He could've emailed us. He did not. He could've reached us through the booking agent. He did not. We arrived in the early evening and left at dawn. The owner offered no compensation. We did receive a refund through the booking agent.
Homely vibe, no TV in the bedrooms but we ended up connecting our USB stick and watching Sherlock in the communal lounge. We had fun raiding the bowl of sweets in reception
Great spot for a wedding or family get together. Beautiful old building with river walk and lovely gardens. We stayed in motel unit. All OK
The Wanakarua bridge beside the Mill House is a significant engineering milestone. It is one of the oldest bridges on state H1 network anywhere in New Zealand and was originally known as the humpback bridge. Designed by John Turnbull Thompson who had a huge influence in the surveying and indeed naming of places in Otago and Southland after area's in his native Northern England and Souther Scotland. A wonderful example of superb craftsmanship of the 1870s.
