The Duke Hostel

Had a 2 night stay and thoroughly enjoyed it. Great for those watching the budget. Glen & his Son are renovating this majestic old lady a room at a time and have done a lovely job. It is clean and well kept. The beds were comfortable and warm. The kitchen was the most well equipped we've come across! Glen and his tips/knowledge of the area is the icing on the cake! Well done boys - you're winning at this!

Easy parking, friendly service and very clean. While some areas are a bit old and in need of a spruce up you can tell renovations are happening bit by bit, which is great! The overall cleanliness of the place was fantastic! And some good facilities too. I'd highly recommend this place for budget friendly travelers.

Had a great one night stay at the Duke hostel. Easily located from the bus station, we had a very warm welcome from the owner who gave us some tips for around the area. We had a twin room which was newly decorated, had a sink which was a huge bones and the beds were very comfortable, we slept so well. Bathrooms were clean and it was a good shower. WiFi worked well throughout. The kitchen was huge with everything you could possible have thought of for cooking. We also borrowed some bikes and cycled out to the mouth which was beautiful. Would recommend and stay again if ever in the area.

We experienced serious behavioral issues from the receptionist/cleaner. It's important to remember that when working in a youth hostel, displaying aggression, racist behavior, and a complete lack of communication is simply unacceptable. It's all the more unfortunate because the hostel is otherwise very well located, clean, and quiet. Sadly, the quality of the staff is just as important as the quality of the facilities.

A fantastic little hostel amongst the main part of Greymouth. Glen looked after us after we came in fairly late in the afternoon looking for a room. We were able to do laundry and received stellar recommendations around the area. Also a ten minute walk from Monteiths Brewery. Our room was clean and tidy, as were the bathrooms. Would absolutely stay here again if I were passing through Greymouth!
