Wonderful place with lovely owners who are very invested in the place that they bought less than two years ago. The building is historical, with high stucco plasterwork ceilings, beautifully coloured windows, and wooden doors. Despite the old building, showers, beds not curtains though and other amenities are top notch. Furthermore, there are nice, big hangout areas, a Backgarden with chickens, porch and balcony. There is a spacious kitchen as well. Everything was extremely clean. A free parking lot is just across the street. It was a very homely place and I'd definitely stay again.
I absolutely loved my stay here. The house is beautiful, and the individual rooms are thoughtfully designed with so much love and attention to detail. You can really feel the care that has gone into creating this place.nThe owners are the friendliest and most welcoming hosts I’ve met on my travels. I slept better here than I have in the past three months — the atmosphere is incredibly peaceful and calming. It’s honestly the most tranquil and relaxing place I’ve stayed so far.nEverything was spotless, the kitchen was excellent and very well equipped, and there’s truly nothing that could have been better. The beautiful backyard with hammocks and even chickens was the perfect place to unwind.nI couldn’t recommend this place more — it was simply perfect.
If there were a list of the top backpackers/flashpackers in New Zealand, I’m sure Noah's Ark would be on it. As a heritage building, it has the kind of quirks and character that create genuine charm. It is extremely clean, feels safe, and is incredibly warm and welcoming.nnI stayed for one night after arriving from Nelson, right before heading off on the world-famous train ride to Christchurch. I’d highly recommend a stay here if you’re visiting the quieter gold-rush town of Greymouth.nnI was welcomed by lovely humans and a friendly four-legged friend. I even spent time chatting with one of the owners about the gold specks he was collecting from the beach! The central log burner adds a wonderful, homely feel, perfect for shaking off the cooler weather. The hospitality is second to none; one of the staff members even made free cookies for everyone.nThe social vibe was a highlight. I ended up headed out to a local microbrewery with some of the other guests, and we spent the rest of the night back at the hostel playing board games. One guest even offered to make me a cup of tea before I’d put my bags down!nnThe rooms are large, bright, and impressively clean great to have a hostel that doesn't smell of shoes . They also provided a free bike and helmet, which I used to get a flavor of the town. I almost didn't believe them when they said I didn't need to lock the bike when popping into shops! It really highlights how safe the hostel and the town feel, it’s no wonder I didn't feel the need for a room safe for my valuables.nnWhile the place isn't 'perfect', it can get a bit chilly during the night in the colder months, the shower pressure is a little weak, and apparently the power sockets are sparse other reviews...but that is just the trade-off for the charm of a historic building. All things considered, it is amazing value.
I couldn’t recommend Noah’s Ark enough!nThe backpackers is within a beautiful, historical building with owners who truly care and are putting in all the efforts to restore and capture the buildings beauty.nAlthough it was off season, there were always a few other guests to talk to and the building never felt lonely, whilst at the same time there are plenty of spaces for downtime including the upstairs balcony with incredible sunset views.nThe fire was always on, kitchen fully stocked with utensils, and bathrooms soon to be upgraded even more!nGreat central location and Ola can give you lots of recommendations of what to do locally.nDefinitely will be back :
Easily my favorite hostel in New Zealand. An old home for priests, with gorgeous old wood and high ceilings, converted to a super comfortable backpacker lodge. The hosts are wonderful, the kitchen is well equipped, and the common areas are extremely comfortable. While I stayed in a bunk room and slept like a baby, I’m going to try to persuade my wife to come back with me and stay in one of the private rooms.
