We stayed 2 nights and were very happy about our stay. We arrived after cycling the whole day in the pouring rain. We were welcomed by the very friendly owners. Laundry, dryer, kitchen and lounge to watch TV, safe place for our bike. Perfect nThe cosy and warm atmosphere of the place was just what we needed. Our private room Leopard's theme was perfect for what we needed, clean and quiet. The place has a lot of charm and the owners are putting an enormous amount of energy on renovating with style this beautiful building. Definitely a project we want to support. Good luck !
I absolutely loved my stay here. The house is beautiful, and the individual rooms are thoughtfully designed with so much love and attention to detail. You can really feel the care that has gone into creating this place.nThe owners are the friendliest and most welcoming hosts I’ve met on my travels. I slept better here than I have in the past three months — the atmosphere is incredibly peaceful and calming. It’s honestly the most tranquil and relaxing place I’ve stayed so far.nEverything was spotless, the kitchen was excellent and very well equipped, and there’s truly nothing that could have been better. The beautiful backyard with hammocks and even chickens was the perfect place to unwind.nI couldn’t recommend this place more — it was simply perfect.
Easily my favorite hostel in New Zealand. An old home for priests, with gorgeous old wood and high ceilings, converted to a super comfortable backpacker lodge. The hosts are wonderful, the kitchen is well equipped, and the common areas are extremely comfortable. While I stayed in a bunk room and slept like a baby, I’m going to try to persuade my wife to come back with me and stay in one of the private rooms.
I stayed here for 1 night as a stopover to Christchurch. I enjoyed a chill and cozy stay. Here's my in depth review of the hostel. TLDR: I recommend itnn LocationnnThe hostel location is good. If you are arriving by train or bus it is a ~10 minute walk across the train tracks.nnThere’s a Woolworths grocery store a 12-minute walk away right by the train so maybe go there before the hostel.nn Design & SecuritynnThe hostel is very homey feeling with carpet, wooden furniture, stained-glass windows, and plenty of space in the TV and dining rooms. It has high ceilings and an old-fashioned style that will make you feel right at home. Each room has an animal theme so it is very cute and unique to other hostels I’ve stayed at.nnIt is also secure, with a code to get into the building after hours.nn Dorm RoomsnnThe dorm room was playful but basic:nn- No Privacy curtains at least in 8-bed Monkey roomn- No lockersn- Small bunk beds where you can’t fully sit upn- Minimal wall outlets in each roomnn BathroomsnnThe bathrooms closest to my dorm were simple but good.nn KitchennnThe kitchen is small but well-equipped with plenty of utensils, pans, and fridge/pantry space. Just remember to label your food.nn Social Atmosphere & ServicesnnIt was pretty quiet while I was there. They offer laundry, the lounge has a Smart TV so you can watch whatever you want, and there is plenty of seating in the dining room.nn Overall good value for the price and a very cozy stay, especially when the weather wasn’t ideal.nn Only complaints: Towel is $5NZD to rent and some missing features in the 8-bed dorm.
More mature travelers over there. There is a door at the kitchen which is automatically closed everything, very inconvenient. No parking in house but easy street parking. The lazy boy arm chair is great. Good location as very closed to McDonald's and KFC. I like the name.
