The Citadel Cafe

WOW! This place exceeded expectations and has an amazing feel with great staff! Very professional and great team work. They're refined in their tasks, clearing and cleaning the tables in seconds! I was mindblown how good they are there. And the food! Great aromatic mochas and Omg... the best chips with cheese and sauces we have ever eaten! nWe will visit next time we are in Whanaganui for sure! First thing!nnThey started getting very busy after we arrived, and we didn't have a reservation, but I recommend doing so in case. We were lucky! Popular for clearly great reasons! We visited after 6pm.

Burgers and fries were great. We had the classic and fish burgers. Calamari could have been a bit crispier. Overall, good value at the price point and quite tasty.

Not as good as it used to be, to be honest. The patty for the classic burger was darn hard. Chico burger was average.nCoffee is still good, though.

Delicious pancakes. They also managed to make a lovely vegan option for breakfast.

A nice cafe located not far from the beach. Can imagine how busy it can be in its peak time. It was a pity that only cabinet food was ready when we arrived at 10am but we were in a rush heading back to Wellington so only ordered cabinet food and coffee. The savoury rolls we had were both great but dessert was a bit too sweet for us. If you are planning to dine in, you may want to arrive after 11am.
