Took the opportunity to visit the new Archie Taiaroa Wing of this Regional Museum. Reminded how art in its simplicity and complexity can inspire and leave you enthralled.nnAn excellent selection and collection of art that truly reflects the Whanganui area.nnThe central display of inanga eel pots was incredible. No surprise to see also the brilliant glass works the city is famous for. Some interesting pottery [the large teapot is gorg]... there was even an original Goldie.nnMy favourite was the steel taniko display suspended in shadows and creating patterned shadows of their own.nnDefinitely worth a visitnnKo au te Awa, ko te Awa ko aunI am the river and the river is mennJ

Excellent new Art Gallery. Was very impressed with the standard and variety of exhibits with friendly staff. Free entry but be aware nearby parking is only 60 minutes. There's a lovely cafe onsite with really nice food options plus a small gift shop including pieces for sale by local artists. A great way to spend a couple of hours.

STUNNING REALISATION OF THE POSSIBILITY OF OLD AND NEW IN HARMONY. MAGNIFICENT!

Definitely one of the best galleries in New Zealand, beautifully curated and a wonderful collection of old and new. The new wing is a great addition.nThe cafe is excellent too - great coffee and cake!
