Tauranga Hospital Emergency Room

As a father, I'm extremely disappointed with our recent emergency room experience. My 1.5-year-old son had a high fever, and after being advised by Plunket to seek immediate medical attention, we rushed to the hospital. We waited over four hours, and despite asking the nurses for updates, we received no clear information about how much longer we'd have to wait. This lack of communication and the extended wait time, especially when dealing with a sick child, was unacceptable.

Absolutely appalled with the unprofessional nature of this emergency. After travelling from out of town 35mins to get there I wasn’t triaged by anyone for an hour. Other people who came in after me were triaged. So about 6 other patients were seen then finally I got to see someone. But after sitting in waiting area for 6 hrs with my 7yr old daughter who had severe school sores/lesions from top of her thighs downnI was told there is only two doctors innBut many others were being seen children baby’s going on and being seen but my child wasn’t not even for two minutes of a doctors timenNo one had any information of wait time or what was going on there is no organisation or system in place no doctors or specialistsnI needed antibiotics for my daughter and also dressings or a referral to a paediatrician or skin specialist excess doctornnBut instead we were told we are at the botttom of the list- but that list is getting smaller and they couldnt even say how many more people were before us either? Just nothing so after being there from 830pm until 3am I decided to just take my child home sore and sick and covered in leg sores sad and angry is an understatement of what I was feeling

Again I would love to give feedback on my experience at Tauranga Emergency Department on Monday, 3rd March 2025.nI hurt my right knee with fall a while ago and doing exercises I must have aggravated the knee. The pain became so unbearable that my husband decided to take me to ED.nFrom the lovely, calm young ladies at the reception, to all those who played their roll checking my knee with an x-ray to the lovely Jackie physiotherapist, to the staff in the corridors - so, so friendly. It's just so amazing.nnPlease can you pass on my feedback to ED for me.nnI bless them all again with success and happiness.nnKind regardsnnGilda Jenkin

I would rather bleed out and die than have to wait here the doctors in the back seem like they don’t do very much I have been waiting here for about 6 hours now in pain just waiting to get an xray

Came in with Rib pain so bad I was almost sick, they made me sit in the waiting room for 6 hours with only Panadol. where I was passed out from the pain the whole time.nI finally got seen by a doctor, only for them to give me a quick ultrasound where they didn’t even touch the sore rib, throw painkillers at me and quickly discharge me.nThe painkillers barely touch the pain, I’m still in extreme pain writing this. Never go here.
