We had an amazing tour with Carlos. From start to finish he was patient, never rushed us through and was thoroughly explanatory. If your into history and beer then this is a fantastic tour for you. From how it all started to now was a great insight to the legendary crafted beer we still drink today.nThen at the end of the tour you get to taste some or all of the 9 beers + 1 apple cider which we tasted all .nGreat value for money and highly recommended.
Having done this tour once previously, this time was a total let down. It's all about the tour guide. My first time several years ago I had a great tour guide who was not only informative as you'd expect, but also comedic and highly interactive with the group. This time the tour guide seemed like he was just reciting a script, was usually looking at the ground while he spoke and was very fidgety with the water bottle he carried. He also hardly interacted with the group other than when asked a question and gave a very direct answer.nI'd still recommend the tour, but just hope you get a good guide.
We really enjoyed this brewery tour. Our guide was friendly and funny, and the history of the brewery was very interesting. The tasting at the end was good with generous portions. Everyone starts with the gold medal ale, but then you're able to choose the other 2 you want to try.nnAfter the tour we went next door to the Alehouse and had really tasty dinners.
Tom is an amazing passionate tour guide, knows his stuff. Thank you for a very enjoyable tour. The ladies at the shop are super friendly and very accommodating.
We did the full Speights Brewery tour. Unlike more common to Victoria backroom tours, this had a more polished historical/museum like quality. We heard about all of the usual things like hops, water, barley, the malting and milling process, the various tuns, hop bombs, kettles, barrels and so on. But we also saw historical delivery maps and hear about the founders, the business approach, and got to see the old brewery floor as well as the new stainless steel version currently in use. We ended with a stop in the tasting room where all of the current tapes and products could be tested. Well worth doing the tour. The only missing thing was the t-shirts in the store said Speights but not New Zealand, or Dunedin and we like place names to go with the shirts.
