Saint Kentigern

About

Saint Kentigern offers “a world of opportunity” for boys and girls aged 3–18 at our Preschool, Girls' School, Boys' School and College.

Story

Saint Kentigern has a long and proud history of excellence in education. Originally established in 1953 to provide education for boys based on the precepts of the Presbyterian Church, the College in Pakuranga, followed six years later by and the Boys’ School in Remuera, quickly confirmed their place amongst the best independent schools in New Zealand.

The introduction of girls to the College campus in 2003 marked the start of a new era for Saint Kentigern and a new educational model. Saint Kentigern is one of only two schools in New Zealand which offers the very successful parallel education method of teaching and learning. In recognition that boys and girls have different learning needs during their formative years, parallel education sees our girls and boys taught in separate classes for all core subjects up until Year 11 when they enter a co-educational setting to prepare them for tertiary study and beyond. Ten years on and few can doubt the benefits of this structure in preparing our young men and women to become the very best they can be.

In more recent years, the merger with the Corran Trust Board in 2009 saw Saint Kentigern open an all girls’ primary school in Remuera as a sister school to the long established all boys’ primary school. As a natural extension, a Preschool for boys and girls was opened in 2010 on the Girls’ School campus completing the educational pathway for Saint Kentigern families.

Over the course of 60 years, the Saint Kentigern community has remained deeply respectful of its heritage, staying true to its founding Christian principles and Scottish heritage. In 2012 a Framework for the Future 2012–2016 was formed to unify the schools with a shared Vision, Mission, and Values.

Overall it’s a very good school with great teachers and resources for students. Strong academic results and lots of clubs for arts, music, sports so students can learn, enjoy and develop their talents.
My son started his education journey with St Kentigern from the Boys School at Shore Rd when he was in Y7, then continues to the College. He thrives so much at St Kentigern system. His teachers are helpful and supportive. He developed maturity and very much aware of his responsibilities more at the College. His involvements in school team sports also give him the pride to be apart of the school. I personally would recommend St Kentigern School and College to other parents.
Giving the perspective of a former student. Schools facilities, subject choices and diversity is amazing. The curriculum is phenomenal. The school is very outdated. Rules are placed against boys and girls which prevent any kind of individuality, the uniform is outdated and simply put; ridiculous. Some of the staff are great. MANY are NOT. Staff is very verbally abusive and rude to students for little to no reason, only to improve their own depressing lives. I was shouted at by 3 teachers for having a phone, no I didn’t not use it, it was in my bag and rang in tutor. It was on silent but The vibrations were so distracting apparently. Pathetic. Students are very kind and the community is great. Too bad the teachers and values imprinted onto the students are wrong, outdated, racist, homophobic and xenophobic. It surprised me that a Chinese teacher was racist towards the Chinese students. Over all, if the school learns how to actually nurture majority of students it would be great, verbal and emotional abuse is not the way to go. Do better
The teachers and students were really nice when I went here.
Old school has been evolving so rapidly that I couldn’t find any clue of what it was like before. However, this place is where i grew up so I definitely love this place.
Do your pupils sit in the classroom all day in wet clothing? I see your pupils walking to school in the rain no coat, no umbrella so one can only presume they are in wet clothing all day. I know it probably nothing to do with you how they leave home but schools make everything else there problem why not raincoats.

Senior staff are arrogant and have a sense of entitlement. No idea of service. With the experiences I as a parent have had dealing with Saint Kentigern College I wold not recommend it as a school to send children too.
Schools Also hire the cheaper staff of account team ! Very rude , was contact with who answered the call , the lady speaking really hard to understanding , very fast with strong accent ! No matters for spoken to ! Not recommend for this school any more !
One of the top education in Auckland and come with the costs, also have scholarship Available also! When you are given that opportunity don’t take it for granted and run with it and see where it would take you at the end of those 5 years and embrace it! Be humble and remember your roots
