Rutherford Hotel Nelson

My wife and I were in this hotel in December 2023. The hotel is very nice. I liked that the employees wear a old style uniform. The rooms are a bit older but quite nice. The steak at the bar is really great and the personell is very welcoming, especially Leilani from Fiji. She is such a warm hearted person. She deserves a raise;-nThe only downside was the Fire alert in the middle of the night which turned out as false, luckily.

We had seven rooms for our group of 13 people in addition to a welcome reception. The hotel itself, while an older building, is beautiful and spacious and well-maintained, and the staff are very helpful. The breakfast and reception food were excellent. The location was perfect, with easy access to downtown. This was a fantastic experience for our first stop in New Zealand.

Had the misfortune of choosing this hotel to stay at in November 2023 for a work based event on in the hotel. Chose because conference was inside hotel, and seemed to have a good reputation. How wrong I was, after originally booking 3 nights, we opted to leave early and not stay the last night as could not stand the disgusting, old dated rooms, that had an uncomfortable bed straight from a Norman bates motel, disgusting black sludge around the window frames, and cobwebs in the room. Not a great room to begin with, clearly not maintained to a good standard and given all that, $250 a night average was a total rip off! To add a cherry on the cake, the have been chasing up my husbands work and myself for the last 2 weeks for $10, I know find out associated with parking for a night we were not even there for!nthese complaints were mentioned at my check out on 25/11/23, again on the phone to me when contacted on 16/01/24 and again today when they called on 26/01/24. the only positive is the person I talked to today actually listened to what I was saying and was very polite, and wiped the charge.nBesides that, such bad form from the hotel to be chasing $10 from a $755 bill at check out + $33.50 at the bar.nDo not recommend. Try an Air BnB or even a motel, will probably be better!nRutherford Hotel do not contact me for resolution, I have no interest in returning to your property.

The hotel is well run and has been there for a while and caters for bus tours, conferences and does so well. The location is great and I would stay there again. Not perfect, but not bad.

Would rate this hotel as a 3 star, room a little shabby, chair was all ripped in the corner, shame the rooms didn't look as impressive as the reception. Breakfast was luke warm/cold whether eaten at 6am or 9am. Housekeeping was horrendous. An item of mine was taken from my room first day and went to reception every day after that from the 6 nights we stayed and not one of receptionists ever got back to me and the item is still missing, no managers available as they were on holiday. Left card out to put new sheets on bed after 3 nights and they didn't, had to visit reception again. Would not recommend this hotel and would rather stay in one of the nicer motels that we saw along the way. The evening restaurant food and staff were very very nice.
