Great accessible walk located 5 minute drive from the town centre with plenty of parking. Well maintained walk track that I would happily take my young children on. Great views once you get to the Basket of Dreams and cute little fairy forest that the kids would enjoy. Super easy traverse down and spotted some deer and goats too. No bathrooms or water facilities so make sure to go toilet before you start and bring some water.
One of My Favourite Hikes on the South Island – Queenstown Hill WalkwaynnQueenstown Hill Walkway quickly became one of my favourite hikes during my South Island adventure. It’s a relatively easy walk — it took me about an hour to reach the top and just 15–20 minutes to come back down — but the rewards at the summit are absolutely next level.nnI did the hike early in the morning, which made the experience feel extra special. I had the trail and the summit mostly to myself, and that peaceful solitude was something I’ll never forget. I ended up spending a good 4–5 hours at the top, just soaking in the scenery — watching planes land and take off in the distance, taking in the incredible panoramic views of the lake, the clouds rolling over the snow-capped mountains, and the serenity all around.nnIt’s the kind of spot where time slows down and you’re just present in the moment.nnI would highly recommend this walk to anyone visiting Queenstown — whether you’re a serious hiker or just looking for a rewarding morning stroll. I’ll definitely be returning to do it again. An unforgettable experience and a perfect way to take in the beauty of the South Island.
This is the starting point of the walking track. The scenery at the summit is definitely worth the hike. You will see the whole Queenstown and the airport from the summit. We saw 3 goats on the way up.
There is no water on this track. We walked from Hammerstein st to Kerry drive and the connecting road and track is quite steep, more difficult than the hill walking track. There is parking where the track officially starts at Belfast st. The hill walking track is quite challenging but rewarding at the top. There are 3-4 different “summits” at the top with more rewarding views the higher up. It’s 3.5kms to the top which took an hour at least and rose in elevation about 400m.
A steady climb to the Basket of Dreams monument through a pretty forest. There are good views of Queenstown from here, but it's well the effort to make the summit for the spectacular 360° views, which will greet you up there. It was not a difficult walk. It only took me three quarters of an hour to reach the monument with photo stops on the way
