PJ's Chalet takeaway

I ordered a super pie, costed $12.50. I wished that they’ve displayed their prices better as it wasn’t shown on the menu. Overall it was a good pie, quite filling. The pastry was light, the steak and mushrooms were tasty, just that they’ve put way too much potato there, making the whole pie a bit bland. Might try just the steak pie without the potato next time.

We arrived in Hanmer around 2:00 pm and were hungry for a snack. This was the absolute perfect place! A friendly face greeted us and we both chose a pie 1x steak and cheese & 1x butter chicken. They pies were absolutely delicious, really flavourful and flaky. The brownie and coffee were also equally as yummy! Dietary restrictions: Gluten free and dairy free Brownies available

Finally affordable food and coffee in Hamner that was yum, friendly service, great coffee ready for a MTN bike ride. Only thing to make it better is bigger pies . Got steak and cheese, mince and cheese, flat white and long black.Food: 5/5

Very delicious pie and best coffee I’ve had on my trip down to Hanmer! An added plus was the complimentary little chocolate brownie that came with our coffee : what a nice touch! I’m a big pie fan so I couldn’t pass up the opportunity of a pie fresh out of the oven. The pepper steak pie is five stars and prices are reasonable. The service is friendly, warm and fast. Conveniently located across the road from the Hanmer Hot Springs. I will definitely come back and highly recommend :

Bought a stack of pies and coffees. One worker on a cold Mays morning who was nothing short of warm, welcoming, and super friendly. Ordered steak and shitske mushroom, 2x pork belly n apple, bbq brisket, and a strak n cheese. Pasty was fresh thick crusty and flaky on top with a gemerous filling. Coffees and ice/hot chocolates were on point. The complimentary brownie and marshmellows on top of the coffee cup was a delicious addition.

I've been obsessed with butter chicken pies since a lovely South African couple I met on tour told me about them. So naturally that's the one I got from PJ's. And it was the best one I had! The crust was buttery and flaky. The chicken was juicy. And the curry sauce had depth and was so flavorful. The toasted cumin seeds on top was a nice touch. It was so filling, too! I wish I had the opportunity to try more pies because the butter chicken one exceeded my expectations. According to their website, they use the water from the alpine spring in Hanmer Springs. That's probably why their pies are so good! Because PJ's operates out of a small building I think they renovated a park ranger station, there's only outdoor seating which consists of bench tables. Since it's cabinet food, service is quick. And the prices are very reasonable. My butter chicken pie was around $8-$9nzd. With the exchange rate, it was a little less than $5usd. I've only been here once, but I highly recommend getting a pie here even if you've eaten elsewhere. You won't regret it!

We were looking forward to these awesome pies and on a beautifully sunny day, we decided this would be lunch. My husbands vegan pie was superb, however my steak and cheese didn't taste as fresh like it either had been frozen or it was a few days old and mine was only warm also. A bit of a shame because based on what I had, I wouldn't rave about them sadly.
