I had the hot and sour soup a week ago but tonight I tried the crispy roast pork on rice I bought extra food as I thought the meal would be small I was definitely wrong the pieces of pork were big, juicy and chunky. Tasty, fresh... a good amount of veggies served with it. The hot and sour soup was better this time and had lots of different things in it. And the dumplings have a good amount of filling and flavour and are served hot and fresh. My only down point is the rice was cold and the waiter asked me to pay before I ate. Otherwise yum.. definitely have it again. Oh and I thought the pork might have been served with red sauce... but still yummy. Inconsistent with taste, food temperature and portion size sometimes I get lots of pork other times I get very little, yet the price has gone up... . Sometimes rice is cold sometimes less or more bok choy, please keep it consistent. The bigger the better...
Had tried the roast duck in 2012, and once again in 2022. It is as delicious as it was as before. Loving the food at this place.
As a Cantonese, I am so glad to find this restaurant. Food is so good and authentic. Taste like home.Much better than Maxim. Good service! Awesome place for Yun Cha. The Cantonese roasted duck and Peking Duck is perfect.
Good yum cha for lunch. Have been to north and south for many years. Always has delicious dim sum at lunch time. Egg tart is always fresh and hot. Prawn dumplings and duck dumplings are delicious. Deep fried squid is also very nice. Egg plant and tofu with black bean source are my favorite too. Highly recommend for lunch.
15/4/18 - We were regulars here but I gotta say the quality of food has been very Inconsistent lately. Siu Mai was over steamed makes it hard and tough and dry, lotus leaf wrapped glutinous rice was under cooked.. The rice was still hard.., their beef tendons were undercooked... They were hard and tough to eat. Update came here today 8/5/18, their food was yummier. But the glutinous rice lotus leaf was still a bit understeamed hard. Service was slow took 20mins for food to come out but at least it was yummy
After having local food for 10 days. We are craving for Chinese food. We manage to try this restaurant visited by many Chinese living in Christchurch. It is Hongkong style food. Pickled duck wings. Steam blue cod fish. Ginger and spring onion Venison hot plate. Crispy skin Peking duck. Steamed oyster with vermicelli. All cooked to perfection and taste like food eaten in Hongkong. . Food : 5/5 Service : 4/5 Price : $$$ Place : 3/5
There are a couple of possibilities why our duck was dry and rough like a piece of leather: 1. This duck was prepared last night, didn’t get sold so was reheated and served to us 2. North & South found a new way to cook the duck for 24 hours non-stop Picture 1 & 2 are textures of my duck this time, no people these aren’t pictures of overcooked pork loin Picture 3 was a duck I had when I last visited in February 2019. You can tell how fresh the quality was back then. My family had been coming here for a couple of years now, unfortunately this will mark our last visit.
Yum cha for two this morning. 8 tasty dishes. Good choice of food items. 20$ per head. Left full and a few items to take home. Parking on site or off site on side streets. This place gets busy. Also ordinary lunch menu also available.
We had a beautiful yum cha lunch yesterday with 13 of our favourite dishes. Everything was very tasty and well prepared. We were, again, surprised how empty the restaurant was. You had to book to get in before Covid hit. Hope you be back to your buzzing self again soon!
Left feeling full but not dirty full. Very good food. Seemed authentic. Would go again. Majority of customers were Chinese which seems like a good sign. Toilets could have been cleaner, restaurant itself was a bit tired but tables were very clean. Service was efficient.
