Fabulous place to visit, specially if you have kids. Plan in advance and carry a picnic to enjoy at the Western Springs park and lake! The heritage tram ride between Aviation Hall & MOTAT on Great North Road is a delight, a must visit in Auckland!
Fantastic experience to see upfront the old planes especially those from the previous world war. One of them being the famous flying fortress from the movie memphis belle. There was a model helicopter cockpit where kids could climb in and play act to kill time whilst the adults walk around admiring these aviation legacies.
Upon entering the hangar, visitors are greeted by a diverse array of aircraft, each with its own story to tell. However, one notable aspect that may detract from the experience is the close proximity of the aircraft to one another. The confined spacing can make it challenging to fully appreciate each piece individually, as they seem to blend together in a crowded display. Additionally, the lighting probably aimed to give a certain atmosphere, is insufficient to fully illuminate the aircraft, making it difficult to capture high-quality photographs of the remarkable pieces.nnI would have liked the possibility to explore at least one of the interiors of the bigger planes.nnDespite the spatial constraints and lighting issues, the Auckland Motat Aviation Hall offers an interesting collection of aircraft in really good condition.
The hall had an amazing collection of planes and other flying machines. It was quite breathtaking seeing the size of some of these beasts.nWe rode the tram from the main MOTAT area to get here. It did look like you are able to purchase tickets on this side and head to the other side via the tram, all with the same ticket.nThe hall was really ncie to walk around since there was plenty to look at. there was also a movie about NZ aviation history. We were a bit rushed as we had to catch the last tram back so there were a few things which I didn't get to have a good look at. There was a helicopter cockpit which you could get in and play around.nDefinitely a nice place if you are into flying machines.
Aviation Hall was outstanding. The two massive sea planes inside were a sight to behold. Great digital screen displays dotted around where you could look at the 3d model of the planes and then select 360 views inside. Beautiful building as well. Free tram rides were a plus!
