I’ve visited places like this in Ireland and the United States. I love the immersive history atmosphere. What I loved about this one more was that most everything was authentic and not replicas. Down to the original newspaper wall covering in places.nIf you’re like me, you found the place by watching VLDL sketches - and came here initially for that reason - but will end up leaving with an experience way more than you expected all of its own.nThe attached cafe has delicious food, and there’s a quaint local crafts store too.
What an awesome visit, visit on their live days when the volunteers are out in their old period clothing cooking, doing needle point, dances and there’s even a black smith at work. The tea was exceptional! And the cafe food is really good!
Lovely place to visit and spend family time. One of the most breathtaking spots in Aucklan, particularly on a sunny day. The view over the pond and of all the heritage buildings is truly hard to beat. Brilliant team of staff who care about their customers experience and put a lot of time and effort into making sure they have a great day out. Lots of fun activities for children and families. Big shout out to the education team who are genuinely the nicest bunch of people! The village has been a big part of my life and I look forward to my return visit!nDefinitely worth the trip to see it. There's also a fantastic independent café and site and the gift shop has a great range of gifts and interesting books.
History brought to life. A well-preserved site with very interesting tidbits about its former occupants. Best to contact them in advance if you are a group to arrange for a guide in full costume. Also, check their schedule as they have activities like butter making or getting your photo in tintype. An overall interesting, educational place to visit.
Really beautiful place. Pleasantly surprised how big the village was. I'd like to return once more before I leave the area. You can make a whole day of it, pack a lunch to have a picnic and make sure to take lots of photos
