Mortgage Link was one of the first mortgage adviser groups to be established in New Zealand and played a vital part in the development of the industry. Founded in 1994 Mortgage Link was also instrumental in setting up the industry association, the New Zealand Mortgage Advisers Association.

It was in the company’s first home at the top of the South Island in New Zealand’s sunshine capital, Nelson that the philosophy of the Mortgage Link Group was forged – a national network of independently owned and operated mortgage advisory firms operating under one umbrella.

Strategic changes for long term success

In 2003 and 2004 two of the three original founders sold their shareholding to a range of existing members of the Mortgage Link group. The new board of Phil Christmas and Charlie Reid (both business owners within the group) worked with then Chairman and Acting General Manager, Ross Butler, (a highly regarded professional director) to set out a longer term strategy for the company and the Group.

New beginnings

The brand also underwent a revamp with a decision to introduce a new look that would better reflect the strong quality that was the Mortgage Link group.

Along with a new logo and associated collateral, guidelines were also prepared for licensees that would ensure consistency across all applications.

The group also invested in state of the art technology to create more efficient client relationship management tools and mortgage calculation programmes.

A specialist software system, known as Bizware, was specially adapted for Mortgage Link. A feature of the system is its unique work-flow system that enhances the Mortgage Link advice process and client relationships.

With specialist support that supplies and maintains the software system, Mortgage Link advisers keep on top of current trends and have access to continually updated software.

Building relationships with different lenders

The Mortgage Link group has relationships with all the main lenders and an extensive range of other providers in the lending industry. With its long history and measured, professional approach to lender relationships Mortgage Link is able to ensure clients have access to the right deal for their individual needs. Mortgage Link can also work with lender partners to develop particular products for clients.

The philosophy behind Mortgage Link

Each Mortgage Link adviser is an independent business owner operating under licence to Mortgage Link (NZ) Limited. The company provides its licensees with lender agreements and relationships, brand development and support, business and advisory systems including our specialist Bizware software, and general support to allow our business owners to compete and succeed in their local markets.

Many of the founding licensees are strong and active businesses within the Mortgage Link Group today.

Professional development for superior mortgage advice

We make no excuses that we take professional development within the group seriously, with changes to legislation and the need for our advisers to be providing professional and competent advice to clients, Mortgage Link supports learning through many mediums and forms. Continued professional development is a key objective for all members of the group.

Each Mortgage Link business owner and adviser is requested to be competent (according to regulatory requirements) to invest in on-going training and to hold appropriate insurance cover.
