Maungawhau / Mount Eden

We visited Mount Eden on a weekday, and it was such a peaceful experience. There are two parking areas one before the roundabout and another is located up. Near the second car park, you'll find a lovely café called Friends & Whānau, which is the perfect place to grab a coffee before your walk.nnThe views from the top are absolutely breathtaking. You can see the Auckland skyline and the city stretching out in every direction. We visited around 12 p.m., and the scenery was stunning, but I can only imagine how magical it would be at sunset.nnIt's also a pet-friendly place, and we saw many people enjoying the walk with their furry friends. My advice is to grab a coffee, find a quiet spot, and simply take in the incredible views. It's one of those places that photos can't truly capture.

Fabulous in so many ways because every view is spectacular! At the summit, there is a 360 degree view of the entire city. Inward views reward the eyes with a volcano crater covered in a lush, green carpet of waving grasses. Even the pedestrian infrastructure that circles the crater rim, with its natural and industrial materials, is a work of art. The walkways both boldly stand out and somehow blend in at the same time. I found benches limited, but there are still enough “ledges” around to find a place to sit and relax. This is a great park to decompress or get a little exercise walking the rim—there are many stairs to climb. For those with mobility issues, you can drive to the top and still easily access some of the viewing platforms. There are many parks in town, based around old volcanic cones—this is one of the best, in my opinion!

Beautiful hike just a convenient and short bus ride or drive fron Auckland CBD. Great views of the city surrounded by vivid natural scenery. An easy climb we were carrying our 1-year old, you owe it to yourself to come here if it is your first time in Auckland. We encountered less crowding on a weekday, though you will still meet some tourists and people jostling for the best photo spots.

Absolutely breathtaking views from here. You have got a small parking lot down and would need to walk up for 5 mins before you reach the peak and then there are nice guidways where you can walk and rest and just look at the Auckland skyline from here. It's always nice when it's an orange sky. Great infrastructure built for people to explore and walk and sit.

Our very last scenic stop on our visit to NZ, made an early morning trek to the summit for stunning 360 views of Auckland in the morning light. Dropped by Uber part-way up, then hiked down the hill to a nearby street cafe for a last meal before our return flight home. Mount Eden was an easy 25-30 minute drive back to the Auckland airport.
