Mount Eden is such a wonderful spot! The walk up is refreshing and not too difficult, making it perfect for a casual hike or a relaxing stroll. Once at the top, the view of Auckland is simply breathtaking — you can see the city skyline stretching out in every direction, and the greenery around the crater adds a peaceful, natural touch. It’s a perfect place to take photos, enjoy the fresh air, and just soak in the scenery. Whether visiting for the first time or returning for a quiet escape, Mount Eden is a must-see for anyone wanting a beautiful and memorable view of Auckland.
At 196m tall, Maungawhau or Mount Eden is the highest volcano in Auckland. From the summit, you can enjoy spectacular views of the city and its harbours. A large, well-preserved crater, some 50 metres deep, is contained within the summit cone. You can access it from Mount Eden Road. The main entrance gates are open from 7am to 8.30pm in summer, and 7am to 7pm in winter. There is public transport to the lower parking level. We drove there and the road is windy and narrow. You have to park at the lower level and walk up the road to the summit. Parking is easy during off peak hours. Free entry. Popular place, need to go early to avoid the heat as well. Toilets available. Uneven terrain in places, lot of walking - the boardwalk helps. Wear comfy shoes, take water, wear hat, sunscreen. Beautiful place. Lots to see. Amazing views of Auckland and surrounds from here. Lovely place for picnic. Great place for photography.
Mount Eden is a big hill in Auckland with great views of the city and water. The walk to the top is not too hard and the views are amazing. There is a big grass crater at the top. It’s a quiet place with lots of history.
Easy walk up. A dozen carparks are available just outside the cafe and even more at the bottom of the summit.nnThe view is amazing, you can see Auckland central from any side. I really recommend coming here when the weather is sunny or for a sunset. Really beautiful views.
Beautiful place for a walk with views of Auckland. Some long stairs to climb on the route we took, but it flattens out nicely for a walk around the top. We had cloudy skies with a nice fresh breeze. There’s a roadway up and down to if you’d prefer an easier way up or a ride back to central Auckland.
