Been meaning to visit Maddison’s for a while. Didn’t book in advance and went on a Monday late morning and got the last table. We sat in the Snug which was a nice little hideaway from the rest of the coffee shop, but it was far from snug..it was very cold and we kept our coats on. Menu is varied, everything from breakfasts to baked potatoes, waffles, crepes… good choice of delicious looking fresh baked slices too. Lots of drinks and delicious coffees to choose from too. Two of our meals came out together but we waited for the final meal a bit too long. The waitress noticed and chased it up by which time we had mostly ate our food as it was getting cold fast due to the draught in the room. Food was really nice though katsu was very very spicy and isn’t meant to be. Hot chocolate was epic! Prices are reasonable. All the staff were really friendly and helpful, cannot fault them one bit. They were very apologetic about the cold in the snug, the delay on food and the lack of hand towels in the toilet. So you can’t dry your hands. Will try this place again as the tray baked in photo looked amazing. If you’re driving, there is a big car park 5 minutes away or a retail park further down the hill with plenty of spaces.
Probably the best coffee shop in Consett. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Food is freshly baked in the shop. I had a freshly baked scone and washed it down with a hot chocolate. My favourite place to go to chat up with friends in a relaxing atmosphere. Definitely worth a visitFood: 5/5
Very over priced food, ordered a full English and a latte. Sausages were burnt, scrambled egg was like rubber. The breakfast was just under £10 so was expecting something quite special, unfortunately i was very disappointed. The latte was nice but that's it. The bill came to £13, I've had much nicer at a much better price. I would not recommend.
First time I’ve used this cafe had a lovely takeaway breakfast with lattes will definitely be returning. Cardboard boxes & wooden cutlery so eco friendly from that point of view also!
Late afternoon, so a little on the quiet side, which was just great for me. Always enjoy visiting this place every time I'm up near Consett. Food great and coffee lovely. No rush to finish, service was good. Interior appearance is nice, lots of wood and old advertising. Parking is OK, there is a car park free for 2 hours or so just across the road.
Such a lovely place, staff there were very attentive and accomodating. Food came at a good pace and tasted great, bought some take out treats as well. Definitely come here for a quiet place to relax and eat! Vegetarian options: They have alternative milk options, several vegetarian options too Kid-friendliness: There is a very relaxed feeling to the place that it doesn't feel like kids would not be welcome, plenty comfortable seating for them too Dietary restrictions: I didn't have any allergies or restrictions, but I think they don't mind if you ask for a removal of an ingredient as most of their food is freshly made
Welcoming staff, the food was really tasty & great service
Went to Maddison's for a late lunch. On a sunny Friday. Ordered the Dirty Sweet Potato Fries with sweet chilli chicken & cheese. Bought a raspberry ice cream milkshake as well. I really enjoyed It! However it was too much for one person. Was glad to have it packed for the rest later on. Very good seating at the back. Will come again some time.
Had an impromptu lunch here with friends and can't recommend the place enough. We are not from the area but met in Consett for a catch up & we all said we would have to come back just to eat here again! The chicken gyros were so good!!! Staff so friendly & was such an amazing atmosphere we sat for a while had coffees and some delicious homemade traybakes. It was a busy Saturday and we were made to feel so welcome and not rushed at all. Lovely staff, lovely food, lovely coffee, lovely place!
The lady on the phone taking my reservation was lovely, being accommodating of me having to push back the time a little. My dog was made welcome. The service was lovely by all staff, and the food was wonderful. Delicious milkshakes, and I brought home some Biscot Billionaire cake which looked delicious, and is quite possibly the nicest thing I’ve ever tasted! Thankyou.
