Mum and I had the roadie of a lifetime thanks to Mad Campers. The MAD2 was perfect for our needs. The van was easy to drive, contained the sink, tap cooking utensils, stove, chilly bin, chairs, pillows, blankets, toilet, enough storage space and of course the bed. Plus other handy things. The curtains blocked out the sun in the morning and the sound system was easy to use. Full tank was affordable and lasted us a decent distance. The customer service was 10/10. Andy and Connor were friendly, knowledgeable, and staff replied to emails quickly/answered calls within a few rings. We can't recommend Mad Campers enough. Already thinking about our next adventure with Mad Campers!
We have just finished a trip around northland in the MAD2. We had an absolute blast in the vans. The team at Mad Campers have thought through every small detail to ensure the trip is the best possible, from the comfortable large bed, ample storage space, fully functioning sink and water to the pull out kitchen & fridge. They really have thought of everything. You can tell that this is a product that has been developed by a team of people who are obviously passionate about travel and care for their customers experience. I wholeheartedly recommend Mad Campers for your next trip!
Had a blast on our 10 day South Island Camper trip. Highly recommend Mad Campers! The campers are great and comfortable, there was nothing that left us wanting as they really thought of everything. I suggest grabbing the mosquito nets for the windows - serious help against the sandflies! We had an issue with the original camper we were given, and despite it being a public holiday we had it swopped out and sorted within a couple of hours. Seriously amazing service!
Mad Campers was the only rental company I could find that offers campervans designed for pathetic solo travellers like me. Although some other companies offered better deals, I decided to go with Mad Campers because I really like the small and nimble MAD1. I do not regret my decision at all. It was a great 5-week road trip. Connor was particularly helpful and answered all my questions via emails efficiently. Their mad challenge is also really fun, which made my trip more interesting. I would definitely not try fishing if not for completing those challenges. It's a pity that I saw a lot more campervans from other bigger companies during my road trip, and I wish local companies like Mad Campers can survive the difficult time.
Me and my partner had an absolutely amazing experience with Mad Campers!!. We were so close to not doing anything on Christmas & New Years holidays. We have a small car and can barely fit anything in it. Went on google to search for a camper van and Mad Campers was the first thing that popped up. Called the team straight away, we booked the MAD2 and left on the same day to explore the East Coast. That’s how easy the process was with such a chill and an awesome team. We have experienced camping in tents before but, using the Mad Campers was a whole new eye opening experience. Being able to experience multiple locations with Mad Campers as it was easy to pack up and head back on the road. It was so convenient. My fiancé LOVES listening to music and the sound system was just perfect!!. The kitchen had all the utensils that we needed, towels, pillows and blankets was included and the bed was reeeeally comfy. We were able to charge our phones and iPads overnight to use for the next day. No need to worry about storage, the roof top storage and also inside the van has plenty of storage for 2 people. Literally EVERYTHING you need is included. The van itself was super easy enough to drive. The Mad Campers team was very helpful, the service provided was just excellent with emails and phone calls from beginning till end of our 8days trip. Connor curly hair guy was taking us around and showing us where everything was also with the keys and today on our drop off, Andy was there to greet us with his big smile, super cool guy. THANK YOU TEAM!! Me and my fiancé had made memories in the MAD2 that we would never forget. Was truely the best holiday we’ve ever had!!. Would definitely use you guys again fam :. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!
Adventure of a lifetime in our mad campervan! Would highly recommend mad campers. We’ve just completed a one month trip starting from Auckland and finishing in Christchurch. The vans are very well equipped, easy to drive, didn’t have any issues apart from the sink got blocked our fault and Connor was super quick in helping me fix this. The customer service is excellent and I really felt that the mad camper team help you have a really memorable trip!! Thanks again!!
First of all the customer service and response was so good and helpful! We flew in and the airline had lost our luggage, so when we got to mad campers we explained our situation and Gemma really helped us in getting the case back. We done a lot of miles and the van never skipped a beat! The bed and facilities in the van were honestly perfect! We couldn’t of asked for much more! Would definitely recommend/use them again.
Mad campers tried to charge us over $2000 today for a booking we had cancelled back in June. Luckily the card they had on file was expired as I’m sure it would of been extremely difficult/ impossible to get that money back from them given their poor response to emails and overall poor customer service. They didn’t honour the original booking price we had already paid a deposit on, and refuse to refund the original deposit after we cancelled the booking due to them jacking up the original invoice price. If you are quoted a price and pay a deposit on that price that is the price that has been agreed on, and if the company decides to add more on top of that we should have the option for a refund. Poor business practice, poor customer service and poor response, would recommend going with a different company Edit: funny how we got a quicker, more thought out and detailed response to this review than we could ever get through mad campers with our email correspondence during the booking process. It took weeks to get any sort of reply or confirmation for our bookings, and our original booking was NOT cancelled, it was postponed due to Covid. And we DID finally cancel, so trying to take our money was sneaky and/or laziness on your part
We travelled in the MAD2 for about 4 weeks from Auckland to Christchurch. The positive features first: Very good briefing while picking up the camper van, everything that needs to be known is also documented in detail in a binder. Two independent batteries, fridge was small but apparently we never had storage problems on that part. I like to cook, so I enjoyed that the provided cooking knife was in very good shape, this is a detail that is mostly being forgotten. The shortcomings: As someone here mentioned 2 years ago, the car itself is tiny from a tall person’s perspective. I am 1,95m. The height of the drivers seat cannot be adjusted due to the build of the car, steering wheel and drivers mirror are fixed too. Sitting up straight made it impossible for me to even see panoramic views while driving, let alone from even sitting comfortably. The car is extremely loud above 90km/h. Maybe it’s the roof box or the bad sealing. The music quality from the radio while driving was very bad consequently. As mentioned by someone else as well, the fuel consumption is heavy, acceleration is poor. Considering this last point, it should be a 1-star review. After spending the first night in the van we noticed many dark spots in the driver cabin. If your head is close to the roof and you need to sleep in the van for weeks I expect this to be a clean space. Although everything else was clean the fabric under the roof was definitely not anymore. I suspected this to be some sort of mould, however I don’t know to this day if it actually was. All of the points above could have been discussed at Christchurch, where we returned the car, but on site MadCampers does not operate the car returns, it’s managed by another company which didn’t show much interest in our complaint that there could be mould inside the car.
Mad Campers made our NZ tour amazing! You immediately become part of the ‘Mad’ family when you walk through the doors- everyone is so friendly and unbelievably helpful. Be it booking activities or letting us extend our van rental- every week for two months- they made life easy! So much thought had gone into the layout of the vans and you can tell when you’re living in it. The bed is so comfortable and also quite spacious! The kitchen is perfect- with two burners for cooking and a refillable has cylinder! The canopy was a great addition and definitely worth having for extra space and privacy! And so easy to set up and put away. We had a lot of stuff and bags but had plenty of room! We were so well taken care of by Mad Campers and I can’t wait to go back and do it again! Do NZ in a Mad Camper!!
