If I was to play a game of Never Have I Ever I would start it with … Never have I ever had such lovely service and such good food in a cafe until I tried Lola Stays. We knew we’d found our people when there was a “Dog Policy” notice in the window and 2 beautifully behaved dogs and their owners inside. That sounds like the owners were beautifully behaved too, and I’m happy to go with that. We were greeted by a smiley, happy lady at the counter and the barista also turned to smile at us. As a general rule of thumb I don’t like people, but the tiny space where my cold, cold heart lives was warming. We ordered drinks and then went back to order breakfast. Where I’m that awkward person that plays around with the menu, instead of being met with a withering sneer, I got an “oooo, good choice. That’ll be really nice” and I felt like an achiever. The Favourite Husband always has an extra egg, usually bringing the total to 3. He was in a borderline state of ecstasy when his big breakkie came with 4. #lifegoals and all. I’d added the black pudding to my avocado and halloumi and it was sensational. I think from the menu it’s made locally; don’t ever let them relocate. As we were getting up to go another server immediately appeared to simply say “you guys have a really lovely day.” And it seemed so sincere and genuine that I swear my cold cold heart was on fire. I will never eat breakfast anywhere else when I visit Wellington. I need to borrow a dog too ….
Perfect stop for a quick lunch. Good value, very nice open lamb burger and Avocado/mushrooms on toast. Only recently reopened, the new ownership hasn’t affected quality or the quality of the service.
Coffee is really good. Food is so so- the beef cheek breakfasts included a quarter sized piece of beef which was pretty funny. Granola bowl was ok.
My favorite cafe in Wellington! Great food and friendly staff. The best waffle in the town.
Loving Lola Stays being back open with new owners, an epic and big menu. Have tried a fair few items already being a local, food is great, service super genuine and friendly and the overall vibe is awesome. Take my hat off to them as new owners and very few teething issues. So good to have this little part of town humming againFood: 5/5
Friendly staff who recognised me from a visit I made the previous day. Impressed! Food was top notch. Loved the vibe within the cafe & loved how dogs were welcome.
Food here is great. But service was really bad last time I went which is a shame. I could go on a big detailed ramble but basically there were plenty of staff but no direction in what their roles were it seemed, barely any initiative shown. Everyone friendly but pretty unhelpful. It really shows you that hospitality is a skill that some people don’t naturally come with. For 25 dollars a plate I would expect table service or just staff that seemed to want to seat you, bare minimum. It seemed I had to twist their arm to let me wait for a free table. I’ll still go back,as much as I’m leaving this review, no one was rude just a bit hopeless and the food is good. Although pastries on counter tasted cheap - avoid those and go off menu instead.
Best steak sandwich EVER! So fresh and tasty with a very fresh chimichurri, perfect. First time I ever had white hot chocolate with oatmilk, soooo tasty. Will definitely go back every week‍ Dietary restrictions: Various diary and gluten free options
