Lake Matheson Motel

The rooms are a great size and can fit a family of 4. The cabins were all very cozy and the guest guide had everything you needed to know in it. Each room was not too big or too small and parking was great. We were driving a bigger van and it was too tall for the shelter area but we were still able to find a space to park. The restaurants and cafes were really close by. Over all the rooms were all really clean and we were close to our friends which was good !

I’ve given this 4 stars as I hate to rate an otherwise nice hotel poorly, but I highly recommend you do NOT stay here in summer. There was no air con or fan in the room and it was unbearably hot. I had a thermometer and the temperature inside the room was 31 degrees Celsius. Impossible to be comfortable or sleep well. Opening the doors/windows didn’t help either and there was no fly screen so it let in bugs! Would be nice in winter as there is a heater and the room is relatively nice and is clean. However, rooms are very close to each other and you can hear noise too.

Super clean, spotless, tasteful decor! Best motel I’ve stayed in during my entire NZ trip. Loved everything about my stay here. Highly recommend!

Stayed here for 1 night but was unfortunate that it rained in the morning so could not see any mountain or the fox glacier!. Room had heater and they provided a small fan. Reception lady was niceee and even allowed us for late check in Rooms: 5/5

First time at this great motel. I brought a group of people - having pre-booked with Debbie, who was excellent to deal with. All the rooms were immaculate. A great feature is that each room has its own individual parking space outside and they are undercover, so your car/bike is sheltered. For those of you who get concerned about neighbouring car doors being opened and hitting your car - this place takes all those worries away. Set off the main road, by approx 400 metres, It is quiet. Plus Betsy Janes is a 2 minute walk away - perfect for your evening meal. Perfect location for anyone touring the West Coast.

Very easy booking process. Debbie is very welcoming & considerate, she had the unit very warm for us when we arrived & changed our unit so that we were next door to our friends. Our unit was clean & cosy, the bed was very comfortable & it is great to have under-cover parking. Her advice about sightseeing was perfect for us. We loved the colour tones in our unit too.

Wonderful! We booked here on a whim as decided last minute to stay the night in Lake Matheson and I am so glad we did. The host was so welcoming and friendly and check in was a breeze. Loved the high ceilings and our room had everything we could have needed and the bed was so comfortable. Easy parking right outside which was a bonus and a short walk to town and quick drive to Lake Matheson. View of the mountains from the motel was a bonus and the owner recommended a lovely restaurant down the road to us where we had an incredible meal. But above all what really stood out was how clean this motel is! Honestly the most clean I have ever seen a motel!! Overall was excellent value for money and I wish all motels were this good. Thanks for a great stay.
