Located in the picturesque Franz Josef Glacier village on the West Coast of the South Island, Glacier Gateway Motel is the perfect place to base yourself for all your Franz Josef, Fox Glacier and Westland National Park holiday activities.

We are the closest motel to the Franz Josef Glacier, situated on the banks of the Waiho River with stunning views of the surrounding Southern Alps and only a short walk/drive to the village where you will find award winning cafes, restaurants, gift shops and numerous adventure activities to choose from.

We offer clean, comfortable, budget accommodation with studio units and 1 bedroom units suitable for 1-3 people and 2 bedroom units suitable for 1-5 people. All units have tea & coffee making facilities, toaster, fridge, microwave, heater, flatscreen TV with 50+ Sky Channels, insect screens on all windows and free unlimited WiFi while some family units have cooking facilities as well.

When first approached the Motel it looked liked it was going to be quite dated but to my surprise was lovely inside. It had what we needed and a nice view of the Glacier from the unit. Would happily stay there again.
Lounge kitchen Room smelled a little. But was still tidy and clean. TV in the bedroom was disconnected.
Adequate unit recently renovated bathroom and new carpet. Good for price but not serviced daily. Staff friendly and as helpful as they could be. Milk in room well out of date. Dish liquid, hand soap and body wash so diluted it hard to use. False economy
The room was clean enough but that’s the only positive. The toilet was broken and wouldn’t flush properly, the shower gel and hand soap was watered down, no milk for a brew and as it was in New Zealand you’d expect the receptionist to be able to speak at least half a word of English. There will be better places to stay I’m sure.
Convenient cheap motel. No glacial views and room stunk of old cooking even thou windows were open. Rooms looked clean thou.
While this motel certainly does have a spect view of the glacier, the rooms are basic and dated. They do seem to be quite clean, tho. Shower is very, very small. It's located just outside of town, so a member of our group is somewhat stuck while we go hiking.
Free wifi, room was fairly clean and big. Hop, kitchen utensils were all in the room which is good for cooking.
Wake up for a spectacular view of the glacier and the beautiful cottages sorrounded by the dairy farms and cattles .A true poctoure of country side
