Story

A Nineteen Sixties Motel that consists of separate dwellings. 2 x King Studio's that are reasonably spacious for a couple, 1 being situated upstairs has its own Private Balcony. The other 4 Twin Studio's plus the other King Studio unit are ground floor. All units are self contained, kitchenette, white ware and basic kitchen utensils. Lavatory separated by rolling divider door from shower and wash basin. 28 inch flat screen swivel arm wall mounted television with Sky Sport 1, Sky Premiere Movies, Discovery and Basic Freeview Channels. Remote operated Air con and Heat pump are available in the Studios only. Studio bedding have 3 heat setting Woolrest Electric Blankets and extra blankets supplied in room wardrobes. There are 4 x 2 Bedroom Villa's on the premises, each different layout from the other and can accommodate a family of 4 and more. The largest of Villas which is mainly used for group bookings has 5 Single beds but can sleep 7 adults.
Internet Wifi available. Parking for Motel guests and larger vehicles can be parked alongside the Motel on River Road. The Motel is Pet friendly @ $10 a day if they accompany the room too.

Very clean and their king studio had a small kitchen attached with all basic kitchenware and utensils. Very polite staff too. There was a plumbing problem in our room and they immediately moved us to another room.Rooms: 5/5
Very tidy room and very hospitable staff!!! The manager was very helpful giving us a room when we turned up without booking at 9 pm . The bed was very comfortable. Will be staying again when visiting our friend.Rooms: 5/5
This motel is pretty funny. Picture cynderblock walls painted that inoffensive yet rather generic faded  "motel cream". That kind of cream colour which has all the life drained out of it and is more grey than anything. Like the skin of someone in the last few days before they pass away from a terminal illness. The owner was very friendly. When I left the motel to find a pub, he was standing across the road on a weird grassy patch by the bridge into town. He was smiling, and frantically waving. I looked about. There was noone else around, he was waving at me. When I looked back at him he started frantically waving again, kind of way too hard. Like he'd just burnt his hand on an oven tray and was trying to fan it cool it down. I waved back awkwardly. He seemed satisfied and stopped waving. "Well that was odd", I thought. And couldn't help but imagine awaking in the night to the shadow of a man at the end of my bed, creepily waving at me as I slept.

First time staying at Kelly's Motel, the owner was very helpful considerate & caring needed two beds no trouble adding another excellent quality bed. Bed linens etc were excellent, the entire motel was spotless, well appointed kitchen gladwrap for the m/w and tin foil for the oven, towels good quality also excellent heating. To me a must motel to stay in.

The beds were comfy, one of the owners was particularly helpful and friendly, and the cooking facilities were good. The shower was super! The big down-side was the noise! Our unit was on the back boundary where the back neighbour not related to the motel sat up holding court to his mates half the night with a loud opinion on everything. And out the front, the main intersection into Taumarunui from the west trucks all night combined with the railway made a constant racket. There weren't enough towels, cutlery, glasses or china for the 3 people booked - only 2 of everything. This even made preparing an evening meal inconvenient. We had to ask for the third item of everything. We asked for an extra towel, and the guy kindly gave us several extra plus another shampoo and soap, but having the bare minimum of cutlery to cook with even seemed pretty random. I guess they expect a lot of inconsiderate guests though, as there were signs all over asking guests to cover pans to avoid splatter tinfoil provided and to cover things in the microwave plastic wrap provided. We and some cyclists were the only non-work guests there at the time the others being roading crews, truckies, etc. The other guests seemed quiet and considerate. So a convenient location, but take your ear plugs! And perhaps your own picnic set.
Booked with no research I booked it while driving based on a siri search i was pleasantly surprised given the affordable price and was greeted and shown around the room by friendly staff on arrival. While pretty basic the room was large and very clean and as a bonus had good air-con which was appreciated on a hot muggy night. I would happily stay here again!
Clean and tidy rooms. We stayed in the old house part. The trains and trucks were a bit noisy during the night. Comfy beds.Rooms: 3/5
