Headed in for a quick breakfast one morning. We ordered drinks and eggs on toast with sides of bacon and some hollandaise sauce. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the Turkish bread was soft and fluffy. The hot chocolate was very nice and the coffee flavorful. They have an upstairs area that is warm and has nice views of the lake. Service was quick and friendly. Good pricing.
This place is popular so expect it to be busy. In saying it’s busy the service is also pretty efficient and meals and coffee come out in a reasonable time. There is seating outside and on most days that the pick of the spots but if that’s full up there is also inside dining options don’t forget the seating upstairs if everything is taken downstairs. The coffee is amazing and made to your liking. The food is also great and the options we tried had lots of freshness and flavour. This is a great place to eat or just grab a coffee if you are in beautiful Lake Wanaka.
Had a quick stop in the area before a long drive up. The cafe is a very good spot by the lake. I recommend having a seat at the upper floor so you can enjoy your food with a lake view but if you prefer to seat outside tables you'll bask in the sun so either will be good. The food and coffee was great and tasted good.
Great food & coffee. Lots to choose from between food options and a good spot for a drink. Large outdoor seating area as well as indoor. Staff were extremely friendly and our food was served quickly. Definitely a busy spot but worth visiting and never had an issue grabbing a seat Vegetarian options: Lots of food options to suit everyone Kid-friendliness: Family friendly, easy food options for kids too Wheelchair accessibility: No steps, easily accessible with wheelchair parking outside
Wanaka is a lovely place, and I ordered a flat white at this somewhat upmarket Cafe. Sadly, they served a cupacino. It seems getting a flat white is difficult to get in many coffee shops. On the plus side, they had nice chocolate topping. Thank you. Parking: Good free parking across the road.
The kai here is fab. Sat upstairs and while busy, all the food was served without hassles. Friendly and efficient staff. Good, fresh food…..guys, please keep it up. Recommended.
We visited Wanaka on Easter Sunday, and the city was mobbed with visitors. We managed to grab a table at Kai Whakapai only because the people sitting there stood up to leave. We ordered beer nice selection and absolutely delicious Thai Salad with beef strips. Yum yum yum! The bakery case was filled with good-looking baked goods which I would love to go back for.
Great cafe in the heart of Wanaka. Ordered Potato with Feta Hashcakes. Comes in big portions and fills you up really quickly carbs. Coffee was good. Plenty of seating, outdoor and indoor but this place seems popular so if you get there early, you might be able to get a seat of your choice. We sat outdoors and it gets pretty breezy in the mornings. Plenty of free parking in the public carpark 2h limit just opposite the cafe, which overlooks Lake Wanaka.
So sorely disappointed with paying $25 for the worst breakfast I have had in a long while. I was surprised to see that “roast cauliflower hash” was curried cauliflower and fried lumps of potato. The poached eggs were so hard that they bounced when I rolled it off the bread. The open steak sandwich that was meant to be made with ribeye steak but it was just pure gristle. We also noticed that locals were served long before us. I appreciate that you want to look after people that are likely to come back well but don’t do it at the detriment of tourists.
Lots of vegan options for brunch and it was delicious. Lovely area too with lots of seating upstairs and downstairs.
