Love this place, I'm surprised the google rating is not higher. Tried the caesar salad for the first time and highly recommend it. And the kumara croquettes, must get! Love their sweet treats in the cabinet too. Dog friendly just makes this the perfect place for me.Food: 5/5
Amazing that none of the reviewers pick up that the cafe frequently has uncovered scones, muffins etc on top of a cabinet & right under the nose/mouth of anyone looking at the food or waiting to pay. Basic hygiene fail for any cafe.
Indeed the building is beautiful nice gardens but the Homestead restaurant has to improve presentation in plating when l order calamari after several minutes the waiter said we don’t have then l order scrambled eggs and the arrived to my table nearly raw again the waiter ran to the kitchen and finally a plate with 0 presentation and tasteless scrambled eggs with two pieces of tossed sage to decorate it the crumpet with pineapple tasty and pastry same no good presentation seems like the pastry chef is a beginner in my opinion they need to improve quality and more.communication between front of the house and kitchen
This cafe is run by children and the poor management took 2 hours out of our precious weekend. We left feeling insulted several times over, hungry and defeated. Your team needs a leader, someone that can direct the ship when you're in a Sunday rush and keep the team communicating.
Tasty food, in a nice environment, with friendly staff. Perfect to go as a family. We normally go for a walk in Monte Cecilia with our dog and son and then go to the cafe for a coffee and treat or breakfast!
Great location and I am sure it has great food. However very disappointed with the placement of my table booking for Mother's day which i booked days in advance. A table with a view of screened windows and a curtain covered closet/storage was very unwelcoming and not suitable for the occasion. Would of been nice to have been called to advise this instead of expecting us to sit there. Not accommodating today. Even the high chair I requested was not available. After 5mins, we decided to leave and were very lucky to find another cafe in cornwall park to enjoy mother's day.
Coffee was good. However The cabinet food let them down. So overpriced the paninis lacked substance needed some kind of relish. The muffins were stale so dry. In my opinion If you are going to sell yesterday's food then you should sell it cheaper and also let your customers know. Nice service.
We ordered the slow cooked lamb crumpet and big brekkie, plus a side of shoe string fries. The crumpet was aaaamazing, and the fries and aioli was sooo fresh and light i could eat it all day. The portion of the brekkie was perfect, and the coffees were sooooo good! Quality was great, price a little on the high side.
Disappointing, visited with friends 6th January, 23, has been one of my favorites since it opened some years ago. Have visited on many many occasions, a favorite destination to meet my friends, and take visitors to Auckland. However my friends and I very disappointed, uninspiring menu, a lot of the old favorites have disappeared! My friends , also regular patrons reported they had observed a deterioration rececently. Young staff appeared very new, and inexperienced, some were lovely and doing their best. Barista unimpressive. I ordered Xtra hot chai latte, was delivered very luke warm, I got the impression he did not appreciate my request to heat. Appeared to gesture to other staff members. We only completed portions of our food. We made a decision to go elsewhere in the future, sad to see the deterioration of a lovely Cafe!!
Very cute little cafe situated in the Wallace Art Gallery with views over the extensive gardens and out to Onehunga. Everything is local and they do their own baking; their crumpets are a must-try! Menu is quite small but there's still something for everyone. Great coffee too.
