Highbury Birkenhead

It is a small and easy mall to shop. It has a countdown, live wire, chemist warehouse, food court, gym, and other small shops . Free parking. Not too busy. Good for a quick visit or food with friends.

Has changed since I was last here, the games room was refreshing not much choice in the food court, Chemist warehouse and Countdown with a few other stores ,still a few empty shops. Maybe they should consider speciality shops like shave shop and gift shops etc...

Our family went last Friday on Matariki for games and bowling which was very fun. Between games we had lunch in the food court where I noticed a male cleaner with long hair was so good at his job. He’s very observing, efficient and good with details. He cleans the table and floor as soon as customers leave, put things back in order and move on. I could tell he loves and enjoys what he does and he works very hard for every single minute on the job. Just wanted to acknowledge his behavior which makes the experience even better than the taste of food. Food and drinks were good too with various options.

Easy parking and easy access both i to and out of... Tired building though and the signage direction to where we were trying to get to Lab for medial test was really confusing with next to NO external signage to help....nnSmall issue but the selection Of stores is sufficient for most needs..

The major downside to this shopping center is that the carparking below is managed by a private company who are quick to issue fines and do so at much higher penalty rates than city council infringements. These are detected by numberplate recognition with penalties for extending past the maximum time period which is 3 hours. They monitor this by having cameras on the entry and exit points and if visiting more than once in a day it can attract false recognition of a violation with the system failing to detect that the vehicle has left and returned again in this timeframe. They do waive the fine when this happens but it's still a real pain as they are not very easy to make contact with and requires administration to resolve. A really big thumbs down on this one. The desire to ensure that vehicles in the carpark belong to those frequenting the shopping center is understandable however privatized parking enforcement also is also a deterant for genuine shoppers. For many it simply isn't worth the potential for encountering these problems and is easier to shop somewhere else that doesn't come with the possibility of incurring grossly inflated parking penalties.
