I’m not an artist but came here to get oil painting supplies to fill my post-lockdown void. Staff was extremely knowledgeable and patient, and walked me through the different tiers of products to choose from. I came home with exactly what I needed to create my art projects without breaking my budget. Would rate 6/5 if I could. Very beginner-friendly and well-stocked art supply store :

The staff are extremely knowledgeable and are always willing to give you advice on supplies no matter your art levels. Went to buy watercolours for the first time a while back, and was given advice on a specific palette of colours for what I wanted to paint. Their range is huge and you can always find what you're after whether it be pens, paints or paper. Love!
Never walk in here with too much money on your hands or in your cheque account, or with too much time. The staff are sexy and helpful and it's definitely a lot of fun looking for supplies and tools and being able to try them out on the spot. I repeat the staff are sexy
I love Gordon Harris. The symonds street store has a large variation of supplies to suit your needs along with a range of prices for the items from all sorts of brands. There is a ramp into the entrance and down the slight second floor of the store. No bathrooms. Staff are nice and friendly and knowledgeable.
The shop I believe is far too small and is a little difficult to find and enter, if others are exciting. Staff seemed to be helpful at some point, but I got the impression I was not important as other customers/artists are.
Too posh to sell student acrylics on the account of being in a very small space. Staff member only helpful on request. That's the one who wears checkered shirt with shorts in the middle of winter.
Really helpful staff. The place is well stocked but if they don't have what you are after they can order it for you.
