My partner and I stayed here for a week, can’t complain. We were very pleased with our room, very clean, tidy and we had a window and a fan but by what other people who were staying there said, it sounds like we got one of the better rooms. A lot of rooms had no window OR fan in the middle of summer!! and one room apparently had water leaking in from the bathroom next door. Other than that, our shared bathroom and kitchen were clean and pleasant. We also loved the bar downstairs and the free snacks and staff were friendly. Sounds like a hit or miss with the rooms though so I would suggest making sure you get one with a window and fan, especially in the middle of summer. We had our fan going on full and window open the entire time and our room was still really warm so can’t inagine what it would be like without it!
While we were obviously not expecting much for the price and the advertised no window of our private/w shared bathroom, the place reeked of mildew and was so poorly constructed that we could hear everything, and light leaked in from the semi connected bathroom walls. There was also no windows/good ventilation in either common rooms. However, the location is great and the shared kitchen is a good addition.
The facilities were maintained however the only room available was windowless so it had a strong musty smell. The dorm I was in had a shared kitchen and bathroom which was all reasonably clean and tidy. Shower was good and the place included a free dinner serving between 7-8pm in the pub downstairs
Room was tiny and stifling, almost too hot to sleep. Bathroom was always wet from showers, trash overflowing in bathroom for my entire stay. Free mini-meal was nice and common area on first floor comfortable. Staff was helpful and pleasant. Strong WiFi, great location and close to ferry terminal.
Beds were significantly more comfortable than expected. Clean room, came in worried about bed bugs but concern from past reviews was not warranted. Reception Staff were a bit unpleasant/upfront when coming in after midnight. The bar downstairs is cheap as cheap can be, good place to drink a few jugs before going out.
Don’t stay in here! Why: We reserved a triple room number 602- 5. We got a nice room, big, with a great view to the cbd. Then we noticed that the linens are dirty. We went to sleep and woke up in the morning with lots of itching bites of bedbugs!! All of our body and face were full of stings and it was horrible. When we told the staff about it, they gave us spray against bugs and fresh linens. Though the staff was nice and helpful, I wouldn’t recommend staying in this hostel!!!
Very positive experience in this hostel only. There is one kitchen for every couple dorms. The free meal in the evening is great. Delicious and in case you are very hungry you can top it up to a big meal fot only 3£. Also for a big meal + drink for 5£ which is an exceptional price. Only downside is no lockers in the room. Would stay here again.
We stayed in a four person room, and there was barely twenty centimeters between the bunk beds. They guy next to me slept butt naked, so I had his hairy and dirty ass in my face all night. No space for bags or anything. Was a struggle to open my suitcase to get to my things. The rooms were so hot, even tho it wasn’t that warm outside and we had the window open at all times. It was miserable being in the room The kitchen was nothing special at all. The bathrooms were gross, disgusting showers and no hand soap. The elevator stopped working when we tried to get on it, some people got stuck in there for a little while. We told the staff and they barely cared. The luggage room was a joke. It was so full that we could barely get in to the room. Just luggage everywhere, no idea how people managed to get there stuff out. My boyfriend lost a few things in there, probably cause people just throw the luggage around to try to make room. However I guess that the bar downstairs is fairly nice, if you compare to the rest of the building.
Decent rooms. Building a bit run down. Bar with cheap drinks. Housekeeping 101 - KNOCK BEFORE ENTERING PRIVATE ROOM! Both mornings housekeeping just entered our private room without knocking woke us up from sleeping and half dressed and asked if we have any rubbish. That's a bit crazy. Bathrooms not kept clean. Ran out of toilet paper. Soap not refilled even though housekeeping noticed that. Could be much better.
I stayed for 2 nights over the Easter long weekend. It was a nice but old hostel. The location is fantastic, really close everything including bars and clubs.I arrived at 6am and went to the wrong hostel. Nomads has 2 hostels located one block apart and I accidentally when to the other one first but the staff member kindly redirected me to the other one. They have reception manned 24/7 which was good and really big common area on Level 1 which my friends and I were able to get out of the cold, charge our phones and get a bit of sleep. I stayed in a shared 4 room dorm, the rooms were small but had enough space, there was only 2 lockers but 4 beds and one of the lockers were broken. Each level has a small common area and kitchen with a fridge which was great. There is a small bar downstairs which was disappointingly closed on Good Friday which was understandable but also Easter Sunday! It might have had something to do with the NZ laws with selling drinks but still disappointing since it's a hostel! Staff were friendly and I would stay here again.
