Founders Heritage Park

About

Family attraction: experience life as it was in Nelson in the 1880s to 1930s. Also hire venues for your wedding, meeting or christmas party.

Story

Enjoy the charms of days gone by. Stroll through the character streets, tranquil established gardens and charming village greens.
During the summer months take a ride on the train, meet resident artists working in ceramics, wrought iron, stone jewellery and the ancient art of cooperage.
Relax and dine alfresco at the Founders Café Brewery – beer tastings are available.
The Park also stages large public events including, March Fest, Evolve, Nelson Growables Garden Fair, and our Queen's Birthday Book Fair.

This historic village is the result of community spirit, the brain-child of a number of Nelson citizens who set up Founders (Inc.) in 1977. It was made possible with initial support from Nelson's business community. A number of major firms assisted in the construction of historic replica buildings and the donation of original buildings. An extensive historic collection of up to 20,000 items was also donated by Nelson residents, leading to the opening of Founders Heritage Park to the public in 1986.

Nelson City Council took over ownership and management of the park on 1 April 1995.

very impressed with what has been done. Impressive displays of vehicles in particular. Sadly railway only operates on weekend. Would be great to see more businesses working from here.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Fantastic place to go to learn about Nelson's heritage. Try not to go on Mondays, as all the extra attractions are closed. Fun little model train set across the tracks, and awesome ships in bottles
AMAZING. This is a must visit if you ever visit Nelson. Ride the train with the young ones. Grab a bite break at the caffee. Walk around the old buildings, cars, plane and enjoy the kids play ground.
Loved this place but was disappointed that the shops in the park were not open Cafe and a couple of others. I definitely would allow no less than 2 hours to explore as there is so much to see! And I was skeptical about it thinking there's no way it would take long haha. Train ride was neat too, the people were lovely
Child friendly, lots of free activities you can enjoy with your kids. Friendly staff. A little outdated and many closed or restricted areas but over all still a good "walk in a park" saturday. Food from the cafe ranges from 15 NZD to 25 NZD, kiddie meals are also available.Visited onWeekendWait time1 hr+Reservation recommendedNot sure
We had a very enjoyable walk among the pictoresque buildings filled with vehicles and article of days gone by. The park is beautifully maintained with many flowering shrubs. Informative panels explain historic details.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure

What great setup for the heritage of nelson at one place. Very well designed and mapped. Perfect place for tourist, young kids to enjoy the antiques of New Zealand. Main attraction for me was the old buildings, especially the ones which are moved in there original state.
It was ok. Just alot of looking around through windows. Has a daycare centre on site so had to keep quiet. If you like old town history then it may be for you. Best park was the war memorial garden with the list of soldiers who served.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
