We really rate Fishtown. Many places have gone out of the buffet option so I appreciate being able to choose my own dish. I've had better Chinese, but paid twice the price. For an affordable option the food is reasonable, fresh, and there's plenty of variety.
Very generous portions. I had a fried rice and a sweet n sour pork. Both weighed like a 2 or 3 kg dumbell. The fried rice was not the best but the sweet sour pork was nice.Food: 3/5
I ordered the sweet and sour pork and it was just horrible. The photo on the Web site looked good, but I got nothing like that. It was dry and tasteless. Never again.
Really good selection of Chinese and fish n chips that is competitively priced. Service friendly and efficient in what must be one of the cleanest takeaway stores I’ve visited. Parking is limited outside but we’ll worth the effort
The Chinese food is tasteless and nothing special. It's as far away from Chinese cooking as the UK is from the Antarctica. I only can give one star because at least the ingredients seem to be fresh. But otherwise: will not come back! Disappointed! Parking: Horrible! No parking at all.

I am so disappointed in my order! I ordered chicken and vegetable on rice and a chicken chop suey and a fish burger and chicken burger and chips. Chicken on rice: was mainly vegetable and a small amount of rice on the side! Chicken chop suey: was NOT chop suey! It was basically the same as the chicken vegetable dish without rice! Fish burger: fish had black skin all through it slapped on some lettuce Chicken burger: very basic Chips: soggy and yuck! $55 and totally disappointed will never go there again! They need to change there dish name from chop suey to chick and vegetable dish. Because a chop suey is vermicelli with meat and soy sauce!

Fishtown does it for me because it's on my way back from town. However, being a long-time connoisseur of take-aways since the 1960's they don't match-up to "Golden Takeaways" in central Palmerston Nth who cook & crisp everything to almost perfection. I keep a diary of takeaways with all their pluses & minuses. I Wanganui there are twice as many fish & chip shops as in P. Nth on almost every corner mostly Asian owned & operated where the standard is higher due to competition & cheaper also. I've lived in Aussie on & off since the 1980's where fish & chips are very expensive with no-where near our appreciation of such, except for Barramundi-fillets that are equal to any of the best fish available.
