Distinction Te Anau Hotel & Villas

This place takes a real beating online and we can see why, it's VERY old and dated and 'used-to-could' as we say, but the service was impeccable, everyone really. The rooms were spotless. The bathrooms are completely updated and modern. And even though it's literally across the street from the Helicopter tour pad, the noise was not an issue. Also one amenity we've never had anywhere else that I highly recommend, that make this place worth is alone is that off season the pool is closed and you can only access the hot tub/steam room via reservation, which sounds odd, but it is so delightful to literally lock the door behind you, the sign says to, and have that whole building to yourself and get to go back and forth for 45 whole minutes!! Words cannot describe how good that felt after getting soaked in Milford Sound in 40 degree weather. Priceless. We also ate there, and the breakfasts were just as good as any we had the whole trip and the portions at dinner are gigantic and the servers are incredibly attentive and kind.

We stayed in one of the villas at Distinction Te Anau Hotel & Villas in December, right in the peak tourism season, and had a genuinely excellent experience.nnThe staff were consistently friendly, warm, and accommodating before, during, and even after our stay. They were happy to assist with requests including luggage storage and additional amenities, and their willingness to help continued even after we had checked out. Nothing ever felt like too much trouble, which was particularly impressive given how busy the period was. Their spirit of hospitality really stood out and sets a high benchmark for tourism in this part of the world.nnThe buffet breakfast was hearty and well executed, with all the usual selections you would expect from a quality accommodation. The location is also excellent, with easy access to the town centre, the lake, and day trip departures.nnHighly recommended. Kudos to the outstanding staff. Incredible service!

We loved staying here!nThis hotel was part of a Luxe Tours package and it could not have been better. The location, the staff, and the quality of bath & amenities were the best we’ve seen in our first week in NZ including downtown AKL. The front desk apologized for being ‘a little dated’ when I asked about cooling the room. The fan works fine, and the open door to the lake was perfect… we wanted the blanket before we nodded off.nThe package was geared for double occupancy so we had two queens. We’re used to our king but no worries. Quiet, comfortable, a fully done breakfast buffet, and a short walk to other great food options. What more is there?nFollow-up: after a second week in NZ the Distinction was the best stay of our trip.

We had the good fortune of staying here as part of the 3 days Luxe Tours itinerary. The rooms were clean and comfortable with 2 queen size beds on offer. The buffet breakfast was sumptuous with a good range of food to choose from including eggs cooked to order. Dinner was also excellent but a bit pricey. Service was always top notch despite the many guests. Spa was available free of charge but the dressing room and spa area needs upgrading. Overall, a very enjoyable and comfortable stay.

One of the nicest hotels during our travels thru New Zealand. As noted in many a review, the lake front location is unimaginably beautfiul. The check in staff was helpful and appreciated her hiking recommendations! Xie xie. The garden view room is spacious and comfortable. Self service laundry is available on site. The city is peaceful, ildylic and close to Manapouri for those interested in going to Doubtful Sound. Hope to return to the city and this hotel.
