Our mother Beverley Stead lived her last 4 years in the rest home and hospital at the Charles Upham retirement village.nMum had dementia and all staff members cared for Mum with kindness, care, respect and compassion.nThere were many activities for residents to enjoy and Mum particularly loved singing with the live musicians.nAs Mum’s life neared the end the excellent level of care became exceptional. It was evident that these wonderful staff members were not simply doing a job but genuinely cared.nWe are extremely grateful to you all.
I visited a friend in the rest home and although the grounds and staff were lovely, the food was a disgrace. They brought their dinner to them while I was there, it was terrible. The soup looked so unappealing and inedible brown, cold and thick and was out clearly of a can so very salty. The bread roll was stale, the meat was so dry they couldn’t eat it and the pudding was canned fruit in a bowl. I was told this is just how it is and no one does it differently. I really hope they improve this as they advertise they offer delicious, chef cooked meals to residents, and I worry for the elderly here as food is essential and should be done well in a care home of this standard/price.
Very well laid out Retirement Home set in park like surroundings with many options of accommodation available.nNot ready for here yet but visiting elderly friends who have just moved in.nVery tidy and clean resident areas and there appears to be lots to do ...nRecommend a visit for those looking for this type of system that has a tiered type of residential care depending on one's health and abilities.
Beautifully presented as a retirement village. The gardens are beautiful. I have spoken to many residents and they all say they enjoy the community feel and the friendly atmosphere. There is a cafe on site that gets very busy, the staff at the cafe are extremely friendly, first name basis with clients. They always have some activity going on, from swimming to exercise to concerts, bowls outings and shopping, even the picture theatre to playing pool.
Absolutely amazing staff and well presented retirement home with many housing options from independent living through to medical assisted living with all sorts of events and little day trips on a bus and all sorts of different general knowledge quiz days, ect.nFully recommend as they take well care of all the residents.
