CanShop is owned and run by the Cancer Society, selling quality second hand goods. All proceeds support the work of the Cancer Society in the community.
The Cancer Society is a not-for-profit charity that receives no direct government funding and provides programmes and services aimed at reducing the incidence and impact of cancer.
The Cancer Society is also the largest non-government funder of cancer research in New Zealand.
The Otago and Southland Division works to improve community well-being by reducing the incidence and impact of cancer with core activities in Support Services, Health Promotion, Information and Research.
Our comprehensive range of support services is designed to help patients, carers, friends and family deal with the impact of cancer while maintaining a positive future outlook.
Health Promotion focuses on reducing the risk of cancer by providing individuals and communities with advice and information.
The Cancer Society is now looking at sustainable incomes to ensure that we are able to continue to provide services in your community.
One initiative that we are committed is to open a CanShop Opportunity Shop in Queenstown.
The purpose of the shop is twofold,
• to generate an income by selling quality second hand goods and
• to create a place for any person in the community to go to if they need practical and emotional support or seeking information regarding cancer for themselves or their friends and wider whanau.
