We visited on a Sunday for lunch. Lots of great sounding items on the menu although limited vegetarian options. The service was abrupt / not welcoming even though the cafe was only half full so not overly busy. After ordering at the counter 2 x Middle East Feast we sat outside in the beautiful courtyard. This outdoor setting was the highlight of our visit. The food came out quickly always appreciated but was missing an item and the portion size was small we weren't very hungry so our opinion wasn't clouded by being ravenous. After feeling like an inconvenience when asking about the missing item it was brought to our table and awkwardly sprinkled on our plates while we were eating. Sadly, the dish was not flavoursome and we wouldn't order it again. A disappointing visit but at least we can say that we tried the Nourish Magazine recommendation.
Food was alright, had the Fish curry, a cabinet Chicken Pide and a kids grilled fish and chips. Nothing amazing, there was more fish than rice which was surprising. Definitely need some more rice with the dish. The most disappointing though was the customer service. While ordering, i put the menu down on the counter and another staff came and quickly snatched it off the counter and put it back on the menu stand. I thought that was quite rude, how did she know i was done with my order? She wasn't the staff taking our order either. Weird. Same staff served us our food, snotty and un-welcoming. Wouldn't recommend Cafe Melbourne simply because of the rude service.
Great cafe with excellent food and coffee. Welcoming and efficient staff, interesting and well designed interior. A beautiful day so we were able to enjoy the sheltered courtyard.nWe'll certainly be back!
Little gem on my recent visit to Thames. The tasting platter was soooo good. It's such an amazing option when you can't decide what to have. Lovely presentation , beautiful flavors. Nice and friendly staff definitely made the difference
