We had an absolutely beautiful meal there. I had the roast which came out with plenty of lamb and gravy. Plus seven different vegetables. Also had mint sauce. Husband had the fish which he also enjoyed.nStaff are very friendly. Would definitely recommend.
Had a meal there tonight, I had fish, eggs & chips. My wife had roast of the day which was ham & roast veges.nMine was very nice and a large portion size.nMy wife enjoyed her as well.nThe waitresses were very good. I listened to an Irish waitress taking care of a blind gentleman, I was most impressed with her efforts to make sure he knew what was on his plate & where it was.nOur waitress looked after us very well, checking all was OK with our meal.nLoved the old style building as well.nKeep up the excellent work. AA++
We just stopped in for a coffee while walking through town so didn't stay overnight, therefore can't comment on the rooms. What we did see was really pretty and the old architecture was well maintained. If we were staying in town I wouldn't hesitate to stay here.
I had the fortune of staying here. I stayed in a room Standard King/Queen with an excellent sea view.nnThe staff members who checked me out and in were very kind and polite. I was given great service.nnWhile the bed in the room does not have an electric blanket, like most hotels these days, the bedding provided was more than ample enough.nnThe room had great amenties - TV with remote, high speed free wifi, a hot drinks making station, two desks/tables, and more electric sockets that one knows what to do with - great to charge your personal devices.nnThe room decor was beautiful and modern.nnThe ensuite bathroom is quite large, and again, very modern. Toiletries are provided and are of excellent quality.nnThe elevator in the hotel is great - especially for those with mobility issues.nnI also recommend taking advantage of the room service breakfast. The food was high quality, as was the tea. The lass who delivered the breakfast was very polite and humorous. You can greatly customize the breakfast and chose a time the prior night to have it delivered.nnThe hotel is very centrally located - which makes it great for those who want to have everything in walking distance.nnAs for the restaurant itself, the food is top quality. Definitely great having a restaurant attached to the hotel - hunger need not be thwarted by inclement weather.
Stayed here on a cold, rainy June night. I got whiplash from the vibe difference between the newer and the classic wings, but I loved it. We stayed in the Junior Suite which felt wildly out of date in the bedroom part, but brand new in the bathroom. The spa tub was huge and lovely. The hallways in the newer wings feel haunted but I think that's because there were only a handful of guests on the night that we stayed. The laundry machine took forever to dry our clothes it was not free when we stayed, though another commenter said it was for them. I've already booked my next stay and I can't wait. This was my favorite hotel on our South Island stay. Ample parking and within walking of the penguins though I don't recommend walking in the rain as it feels much farther than it actually is. Room service breakfast was 10/10. Take the elevator by reception! It's the size of a matchbox and you get to watch the walls move. The character of this place is unmatched.nn****Updated 2024 Review*** This time we stayed in a Heritage Suite. I thought that the Brydone had peaked with charming weirdness before, but it somehow managed to outdo itself. If you are lucky enough to have the Heritage Suite with an ocean view, prepare yourself for a little green laser dot that bounces all over the roof. We put out our card for room service before 10 p.m. but it was there in the morning, so I'm guessing nobody noticed it. Bummer, but we survived. It felt a little less haunted than in June, but only slightly. Still incredibly comfortable and very large rooms with easy parking. There is nowhere else I'd stay in Oamaru.
