Elegant Blythcliffe; the perfect backdrop for your dream marquee garden wedding or event, large or small.
Bed & Breakfast and Garden Visits available
Blythcliffe is a superb, 157 yr old grand house, set in extensive, restful and private grounds; built in the Colonial Regency style, and known locally as Akaroa's Stately Home. We have a Category 1 listing with Heritage New Zealand, Pouhere Tahonga, and invite you to come and experience this very special home for your stay in the quaint and historic French settlement village of Akaroa.
Blythcliffe is now available as a garden wedding venue, suitable for large or small events of any kind, we'll be happy to discuss your needs.
Escape the crowds - our guest bed and breakfast accommodation is a self contained, completely private, stable conversion, adjacent to the main house and grape lined sunny courtyard. Perfect for that romantic getaway weekend or longer holiday, it's open plan with kitchen, bathroom and one (extremely comfortable!) super king sized bed. Single roll out beds are available on request, they are suitable for teenagers or children.
We are an easy 2 minute stroll to several excellent cafes and fine dining restaurants. Hire a bike or kayak and explore the many other attractions Akaroa Village, harbour and surrounding areas has to offer. Experience our famous Hectors Dolphin and Harbour cruises or the Pohatu Penguin Tour. Check out www.Akaroa.com for more ideas, you're really centrally located for trips further afield on Canterbury's stunning Banks Peninsular.
Enjoy your delicious, self served continental breakfast in our sunny garden croquet pavilion. Why not spend some time exploring the ethereal Blythcliffe private forest, protected by a conservation order and containing many spectacular examples of native trees and plants - some trees are hundreds of years old. We will be happy to guide your bush walk, next to the Balguerie Stream as it tumbles over its rocky bed, feed our tame eels and marvel at the song and antics of the native Wood Pigeons, Fantails, Bell Birds and Wax Eyes. Picnic lunches are available upon request, extra charges apply.
