One of the coolest cave experiences I've gone to! The groups are small, the guides are educational, and the caves are amazing! The path has been created so that as long as you stay on the path it is safe to stop, take photos, look around. It is a moderate amount of stairs, and the guides explain that there are no glow worms in these caves as there is no stream, but there are some you can see at night on the bushwalk outside the caves, even for free!
Our tour with Cheryl, as our guide, was very good.nWe learnt about the ancient and recent history of the formation and discovery of the cave, and Maori culture as well.nA moderate level of fitness is required to get up and down the stairs. A couple on our tour had two daughters under 5yo and they both walked the whole way.nA combined ticket including the Waitomo Glowworm Cave provided a substantial saving when compared to buying separate tickets for each trip.
We did the Aruani Cave tour as well. It is amazingly beautiful! The formations inside the cave are just spectacular! Definitely worth it! You will not see glowworms there, but you will be amazingly surprised by its undescribable beautiful formations! Except for the glowworms' light show, it is definitely more beautiful than the Glowworm Cave!
Visited the Aranui Cave as part of Waitomo tour/visit. It was an eye opening experience. It’s amazing what mother nature is able to create.nnThough I would not recommend this for elderly or people with knee problems. As the walk before getting into the cave was a bit steep and there were a lot of steps inside the cave with limited lighting.
An amazing experience bring the whole family the sprial stairway the glow worms the atmosphere or just relax and enjoy the whenua around waitomo the bush walks day or night has the eyes seeking the local inhabitants thoroughly an experience for all
