I've had to update my review of Al's Deli, as my second visit here was a bit of a disappointment compared to the first time. After my second visit, it felt like the food was way too over priced for what you got. Firstly, they serve a $5 black coffee, which is just basically an espresso shot in a long cup. Secondly, the burgers do not come with chips, you have to order them separately, which is no big deal if the burgers and chips taste great. Sadly, this was not the case. The burger patty tasted bland and cold in the centre, almost like it was cooked from frozen. The chips were the most disappointing chips I've ever had. They were cold, not crispy and came in such a small portion for what you pay, which is $6.50 per portion. If you look at one of the posted pictures, its just a little bit lacking. Unfortunately, after this experience I don't think I can recommend Al's Deli, especially for the steep price you pay for below average food.
Came by a few times and the latest was with a voucher for a meal platter. Platter came with 4 sliders, wings and fried pickles and we also ordered a half rack of ribs to share since there was three of us. Sliders were bigger than normal but was ok. The chicken slider was a bit dry and the beef one tasted better. The fried pickles were nice. Portions were alright with mounds of fries and coleslaw. The shakes are always nice as was the root beer float. Service was great, food was ok. The doughnuts up front always look good though but usually end up ordering too much.
The menu had me salivating, but when the food arrived, everything was too salty. This was for both my meal and my mates. Even our salad that came with the Mac & Cheese Doughnut was salty! I ordered the Poutine Burger and be Mac & Cheese Doughnut. Had high hopes, but the salt killed it.
We used to come here so often and the place would be packed and you'd have to wait for a table. We came at 12 on a saturday and we were quite literally the only ones there. The menu has been split so they no longer offer half the menu before 1pm but they kindly let us order something from it anyway. The poutine was as good as ever, the broccoli also still amazing. There was a lot of confusion when I tried to order an iced chocolate and the waiter was talking about blending a hot chocolate with ice. It came out and was literally a cup of chocolate milk and not the iced chocolate covered in cream and chocolate sauce you used to get. This is something off the menu that the waiter couldn't even explain to me how they would make it and obviously couldn't. After seeing that the business has been sold and how the new owners have responded to reviews and feedback I'm sad to say that was the last time I'll go there. The place was thriving and it's a shame to see what it's become. If you're after poutine try fed deli, I can confirm it's amazing.
One of the best cheese burgers I had in Auckland.. or anywhere. If you like American style food, this is definitely a place to try.
Ordered smoked salmon with brioche Lots of salmon for $14 is a really good value. Burger beef patties bit dry Poutine taste yummy
No pastrami left when i checked in. Instead i had fried chicken but things were slightly different than I expected. Service, food and craft beer I had were good though.
Averagely average on average. "AFC" fried chicken has aboslutely no spice in the batter or any sauce to go with it. Tasteless. Would not recommend for food. The staffs needed to greet the incoming customers and there were other dinners close by, I cannot just say directly that I did not enjoy the food by one bit. Courtesy 101. Not sure about dessert and bagels. I am willing to give Al's Deli another try on another day and update my review.
I love this deli. It’s my favorite go to deli near cordis hotel in Auckland. Great tea and smoked salmon bagels.
Ordered this on uber eats after seeing decent reviews on google maps, was so disappointed with the poutine. The cheese curd was rubbery and completely flavorless and I'm so disappointed because I had heard great things. Definitely wont be ordering from here again.
