Here is my real story. Will try to be objective and straight to the facts. 1. Price - The price was not cheaper than the leading companies which offer new cars, emergency equipment, insurance, 24hours support and assistance. I asked for discount and was given 180$/day down from 200 which was still more expensive than other company offered me 170$/day Landcruiser trooper, but standard. So the prices were not cheaper, but moderate. 2. Arrangements, booking etc. - it took around 15 emails to settle everything and that's with me pushing. That was a lot of emails, compared to two, with contract, details and regulations from my first experience with another company. The owner offered to pick me up from the airport and got my flight details 10 days earlier. He said he would pick me up. On arrival there was no one. The car was left in airport unlocked with keys in. It took me half an hour to find it in the heat, with phone calls with roaming and by pictures he texted me on my roaming charges as well. Paid 37$ parking fee to exit the airport parking. Who knows how long it was parked there. 3. The car - it was 10 years old, worn out junk. The hand break did not work and he knew about it, the rear wiper had no working rubber blade, the spare tire had absolutely no pressure in it. Every time you applied brakes the car would swing so hard towards the oncoming traffic that you actually had to anticipate it in advance and correct the swing with the steering wheel in the opposite direction. It freaked me out the first few times. There was no front license plate and the coolant expansion vessel was empty. Dry, nothing, no coolant. The temperature gauge was in the normal limits though. I told the owner and he put in 2L two days later and left 3L coolant for me and I would add 200ml every day. So the whole 5Litters of coolant were consumed in 11 days. 4. Ruined Vacation - the car overheated on the highway 40km from where we stayed. Neither a back up car nor the owner were available as he was the only emergency number listed. The insurance did not include towing . The owner told me to leave the car and just go. Go where? Walk 40km with family and camping gear on the highway in the evening/night? He would not arrange for a taxi neither when I asked, because he said I had address where I was and noone would drive to there. The tow truck would have come, but the owner opted not to, because it was too expensive as not being part of the insurance. I was stranded on the highway for 6 hours till 11pm at night with my wife, son and all camping gear until our relatives picked us up making 2 round trips. What if we had no one or that was the bush? Cancelled the last 1/3 of my camping plans. The owner never offered to reimburse my deposit or not to charge me for the car. I had to send him an email next day and ask for it. Then he apologized and agreed not to charge me. It took more than 10 days however and couple reminders for him to paid back my deposit, but after all this experience he charged me the half tank of fuel:))) Unbelievable! At the end I understand the guy runs a family business and he tries to cut costs here and there, but renting technically unsound vehicle, without proper insurance for road side assistance which includes tow truck, no 24 hours emergency number, no back up vehicle is absolutely unacceptable for a developed country like Australia. What impression would l be left with about Australia? How would you feel if you have to cancel your booked and planned vacation or be left on the side of road in a foreign country with no help at all? What if the car broke down in these wild bushes on Fraser or Moreton ? I hope this does not happen to anyone else. Cars and machines do break and that is normal. That is why people have a back up plans and insurance, but saving few dollars and willingly and consciously leaving your customers on their own is something very far from the excellence this website describes.

I can say , it was totally different experience renting vehicle from dirk comparing to other rental companies. He was honest( a rare commodity from rental companies ) , upfront about all costs , advice about the island , driving and routes etc. His website itself a wiki for Fraser Island. The prado was smooth , powerful and did not hesitate the challenging roads and behaved very well on road & off road. Had a great time in Fraser along with family.
