The Three Monkeys Cafe is well known in Newcastle, and I had the opportunity to visit it twice recently. The food is good. On my first visit, I had the pancakes, the portions being quite generous. The ice cream on top with syrup and berry jam was a nice combination. I found the pancakes chewier than I would prefer, but acceptable. A small pot of syrup on the side would have been good, as I found myself running out of syrup for the pancakes on the bottom. On my second visit, I had 'the Ultimate', which is pulled pork and poached eggs on top of hash browns, drizzled with Hollandaise sauce. This was great, heavy as it sounds. The portion size was not huge, just right. The coffee is also quite good - I drink long blacks 95% of the time, and the baristas do a good job of this. So, why the 3 stars? Maybe I'm being unfair but out of the two times I've been, I didn't feel any warmth or rapport from the wait staff - almost felt like I was being a nuisance. I get that it's a busy cafe and there are other customers to serve, but.. yeah. If I'm paying almost $30 for breakfast and coffee, I expect to feel better walking out than walking in, not the other way around. 4.5 stars for food/coffee, but I think I'm being more than generous with 3 stars given the overall experience. YMMV.
Breakfast was so delicious, the toasts and other breakfast food was made nicely and hot chocolate was bit small but nice to indulge in. Price is a bit on the high end, tables are a bit small though.
Interesting, creative recipe for the main course shown in the photo below, albeit tasted a little weird but a good experience. Cute little cafe located in the middle of the small town with healthy crowd. Hope to be back again!
Incredibly friendly staff, Meg you deserve a pay rise. Delicious coffee, the sticky date & butterscotch muffin is amazing. Could not recommend them highly enough.
Cozy place to hangout. The poke bowl was quite nice actually, very healthy. Was expecting more from the Vietnamese coffee. Other than that, everything’s fantastic.
We had lunch here with our dog on our road trip and ordered poke bowl and Moroccan eggs. the food is tasty and the staffs here are very friendly.
Snickers Thickshakes are always the best here. Opted for the veggie burger this time as it was actually good. Plenty of goodness to fill you up. Poke bowl was also appetizing. staff friendly and a nice cosy atmosphere.
I actually first went to the Three Monkeys Cafe several years ago with a good mate of mine. It was definitely a very lively place. From memory, we each had a large breakfast meal. The coffee tasted very smooth. It was a seriously nice meal with quality coffee to match. From my observation. The establishment appeared to be frequented by the younger generation. I suppose they must have been University students or something very similar. As everywhere inside the cafe was very crowded and continuous cheerful young voices filled the air. It was certainly the place to be if you enjoy a coffee and a nice meal if you happen to be living anywhere in the surrounding area. I liked the happy broad range cultural experience. It was nice to see multiple people thoroughly enjoying themselves in a truly happy environment. We sat out the side of the cafe. In the small breezeway area to catch the fresh air breeze. Definitely a big Thank You to the Three Monkeys Cafe. I had a very pleasant experience.
This was a regular haunt of mine many years ago and was the venue of a first date which led to marriage! Glad to revisit several times recently and find it is still run so well. Great food and coffee, the servers are great and it still has all of the charm especially upstairs.Food: 5/5
Service was excellent; we were lucky to be able to walk in right away and get seated. I had the breakfast burrito, a hot chocolate, and orange juice, and my partner had the Moroccan eggs, a cappuccino, and a chocolate frappe. All food and drinks were fresh and delicious, and the atmosphere in the back courtyard was lovely. 10/10 would go again x
