Long queues with a reasonable wait time of circa 10 minutes. The bouncer did not disclose the $15 cover charge, when checking the IDs of our 15 person party. 1 of the 2 girls at the counter was taking payments. The other one was busy with her cellphone and could not be bothered to look up, even when being asked a question. We politely asked the bouncer to give us 2 minutes to sort out payment but were pressured with the words "No 2 minutes. Pay right now or F@$% off". This kind of verbal behavior is unacceptable and made us not enter the club, as we did not feel safe.
Hired out the champagne room for a birthday. THE WORST SERVICE EVER RECEIVED. We were horrified. Staff were so rude and un-cooperative. Charged some of our guest entry fee at the door. Highly recommend to never use this venue for any events. Management should look closely at re-training their staff on customer service skills. Would not recommend. Would give zero stars if possible. They must just be racist.
The place looks nice. The bar staff was friendly. The only problem is that I got kicked out without a reasonable reason. They mentioned I’m not from New Zealand and that they could tell by me accent. “They reserve the right to have whoever they want in the premises” and because I’m not kiwi I was not allowed there. Racist bouncers and also they don’t display their names. The bar manager Gene Hughes was the one to mention my ethnicity. I’ve never in the years I’ve been living in New Zealand have a been treated with racism. Shame on the people this place hires. We are almost in 2020! There’s no space for racism or intolerance!!
love the music and the crowd, but always kicks me out of the club. One time i got kicked out even tho i had nothing to drink.. i asked why and was told i look tired.. its not my fault i want to have fun and have a LIFE after work... the other times i was drunk so its understandable.
Bouncers deny entry for no reason, and seem to target minorities. Half our group was turned away despite being far more sober than the rest of us. After I paid the $15 !! door entry, the bouncer stopped me and repeatedly asked how much I'd had to drink, even after I explained that I had already paid to get in. Whatta place!
I don’t even want to give 1 star to this terrible establishment. Myself and 4 other ladies had just enjoyed a nice meal somewhere else before our friend took us here for a night cap. we all shared a bottle of bubbles at dinner so far from being intoxicated we were slightly excited as we all haven’t seen each other in 5 years, and a friend is getting married in 3 days, but we were not swearing, swaying or being loud and obnoxious. My friend asked for the menu, the Barman said he was the menu and then proceeded to pour us all waters and said he would serve us half an hour after we finish our waters. We happily left 1885 and went just round the corner to a fabulous bar called Caretaker where we were served by a gracious host, taken to a table and our drinks ordered and we were treated like any married, mid thirties, hard working ladies should be.
Service was amazing, my main was absolutely delicious, I was even offered a some free dessert. Can't fault the view, even with all the pigeons. I'd recommend this place to anyone considering home renovations, solid work. 6/5 stars I'd definitely shop here for shoes again.
My last experience here was like out of the show ‘Bar Rescue’. Don’t get me wrong most of the staff here are lovely, but on my last visit my drink was poured TERRIBLY because a bartender was bantering and not paying attention. I watched her pour not even a second of vodka and it was basically just sickly sweet syrup. I took one sip and tried asking for a new one/re-pour. I was told by a lady who apparently was the manager “That’s just a standard drink”. I very calmly tried explaining to her politely and diplomatically the situation and that I didn’t want to get anyone in trouble for being distracted, but my drink was poured very badly and if she could taste it so she could understand that it was pretty much just sickly sweet syrup inside a sticky cup thanks to the fact the bartender spilt it everywhere when pouring it. Rather than just giving me a replacement drink which wouldn’t have broken the bank, she calls security on me. Security walked us to the entrance because the bar manager apparently told him on a headset that my friend and I were intoxicated which we weren’t, we'd only just arrived. I then explain to him the situation just as I had to the bartender and he apologises to me.... seriously, he apologises on behalf of the bar manager. He said “I can see you’re not drunk, I’m sorry SHE’S JUST LIKE THAT with everyone, do you want me to speak to her boss?”. I didn’t want to make a scene so I left it at that. The bouncer was very reasonable and knew we weren’t drunk so he let us straight back in, but I wasn’t too impressed how the manager handled the situation. I know my rights under the consumer guarantee acts and the manager here needs to make sure she knows the right of the customer too before she gets herself or the business into trouble. If customers are paying that much for a drink, as a manager you should be making sure staff are focused, doing their job and pouring drinks correctly so that you’re delivering the service that the customer is paying for. In all fairness, if shes letting staff stand and dance on a wet bar top that drinks are still being served off then I’m not that shocked she lets them get away with half assed drink pouring.
Great music, the security guards are a bit scary but I guess it's their job. Drinks range from 8 to 10 dollars up but overall you'll have a great time!!
This place has dirty pillars and the smoking area is not exactly the most pleasant, mainly because there IS a smoking area in the first place. The music choice is not my kind of jam and I've had a record number of people trampling on my foot. Would not recommend.
