1876 Bar and Restaurant is a distinctive & much valued landmark of Queenstown.The old stone courthouse building was erected between November 1875 and September 1876. The Old Courthouse is one of the few structures that survive from Queenstown’s early gold mining days.
Now over 130 years on 1876 offers an upmarket menu, relaxed atmosphere, great service & friendly staff. With the option of indoor and outdoor dining 1876 is definitely the place to be. Seriously, The BEST burger we have eaten in NZ, and quite honestly, ever before. We've traveled through the country, top to bottom, trying a burger at nearly every city we stay in. This one was by far the most amazing experience we've had. Bravo! I have no idea how they put this burger together, its got just the right kick of spices, the onion was grilled to perfection. The bun is a toasted Turkish bap that seemed to be glazed with butter, garlic and herbs. Both, the cheddar and blue cheese options were phenomenal. I honestly can't remember another burger that blew my mind like this one. I need the recipe please! I think we came in at just the right time, there was no rush at the bar, we had a seat in seconds, the staff was friendly, and the cook(s) did a fantastic job. Absolute Perfection.

When we first got to Queenstown we stopped at one of the restaurants on the water - nice patio, but way too pricey! $10 for a beer is a little ridiculous. We looked up this place, and went over for the Wednesday night steak special. Nachos, two steak dinners, and 4 drinks came in well under $100. Really cool looking old building with a nice patio, food was great! Walk in up to the bar to order food and they'll bring it to your table; servers don't take food orders from tables (at least not on the patio). We recommended it to a couple other people we met, and would absolutely go back! Great value!

Ate here while waiting for friends and was pleasantly surprised by how good it was. On top of that it's was one of the cheaper places in town for a beer, double bonus. The staff were friendly and there is plenty outside seating with large tables people seem happy to share. I def recommended a visit.

Stopped by when it was quite busy and managed to get a table outside. It wasn't too cold since they had blankets available and outdoor heating. They didn't have table service so we went inside to order. It was busy so it took a while for the food to arrive but we were told beforehand. What was nice was the cheap cocktails that they had. Food was decent and well portioned for the price. Nice place for drinks and/or dinner.
