-Our Story-

Joom Reab Sou, and Welcome to Yeay’s House.

Here you will experience traditional Cambodian cuisine, with recipes from Battambang, in the north east of Cambodia.

We are a family owned and run restaurant, which have lived locally here in Tawa for over 20 years. We migrated to New Zealand in 1992, as a result of the Khmer Rouge.

We are excited to bring you food that has been passed down through our family. ‘Yeay’ in Cambodia is ‘Grandma’, so we want you to feel at home while you experience the unique flavours of Battambang.

While you are here we promise to provide great food, and great company. We love getting to know our customers.
So relax and enjoy, while you are here this is your home.

Saum Arkoun – Thank you!

This is my first time to taste Cambodia's food.I have to say~ my friend and I ordered these food are so yummy! This is the best spring roll I had so far!!! Nice service, nice music, nice atmosphere!!! Highly recommend:
This was a total discovery. I'd passed by this restaurant many times and never entered. Last week some friends and I planned to have dinner together and one of them suggested Yeay's House. I was delighted. The environment, the set-up, the food and the service, everything was just perfect. There's nothing missing from this place. Meals are freshly cooked and quick; the toilets are the cleanest I've ever seen in Wellington; the staff are incredibly nice and kind, they make customers feel welcome and wanting to come back and I'm definitely going back with my family. Perfect for families with children, small and big groups; easy parking, near shops.
A wonderful dinner at Yeay's House in Tawa. Delicate Asian flavours, generous portions and friendly service. A real asset to the Wellington dining scene.
I have visited this restaurant twice before and both times the food was delicious. The waitress was lovely and provided excellent service. However, on my third visit when I brought my parents the food was terrible. In fact 3 out of 4 of the dishes served were stone cold. This was seriously concerning as they were all chicken dishes!! We asked for the food to be heated but I'm 90% sure it was only microwaved as the plate was hot and the food near the outer edge of the plate. Most of us didn't finish our food because we only ate the hot bits due to fear of food poisoning! We were offered no form of compensation upon paying. Eat here and run the risk of being disappointed at best.
Lovely food and Cosy atmosphere. The service was amazing too. It was like we had been invited round to a close friends place for dinner. Very casual and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Really enjoyed our meals. Mixed kebabs, crispy spring roles, red curry with generous chunks of chicken, carrot and potato, and a traditional Cambodian dish - I forgot the name, but not the flavour - it was amazing! Pricing was very reasonable and it was BYO. I'd go back any time!
We went last night. We ordered the mixed kebabs for entree. Yummy. Then two guests had Red Curry which they enjoyed. A sizzing squid platter had by another was tasty. I had a steamed fish dish which was steamed in a banana leaf and served with rice. I loved it. We felt it was just like the food we had experienced in Cambodia just a few months ago. We would recommend going. Staff very nice. We will definitely be back when in Wellington.
This was recommended by a friend so off we went. And it was good. Very good. The food is fresh and interesting. Tasty. Drinks were big. One best lemon, lime and bitters I have had ever. Staff were friendly. You almost felt like part of the family. Would we go back? In a heartbeat. One of our top 5 in Wellington. Good job team Yeay’s!
This was hands down the best meal we've had out in a long time. Everything was fresh and the flavours all complimented each other really well. Portions are very generous and well worth the price. You can tell they really care about their customers enjoyment, because the food is presented so nicely and they often check to see if you are satisfied with your meals. Very little waiting time for meals and we were all served at the same time. This is a fantastic place to dine if you have wheat allergy or celiac disease and lactose intolerance. Service here is the best I've encountered in a Wellington restaurant. It's safe to say we'll be back and often.
Great atmosphere, very friendly staff. I've been here a couple times now and the red curry is nice however recently i had the marinated beef on salad and it came out warm and lacked flavour. I tried my friends chicken & cashew dish and same deal. Desert menu sounded amazing but i think they change it often.
A great place in Tawa. It was nice and warm in the middle of winter. The food is great. My wife had a beef soup and I had the red curry. Both were great. The restaurant has a nice spacious layout which means you can have conversations with friends. The prices were very reasonable. Highly recommend.
