Not a safe place for neurodiverse children. Told there are 'techniques' to keep my loud children quiet during a noisy and cluttered children's event. Only approached at end of 1 1/2 hour visit, with 1 previous attempt during a 2 min phonecall. I had been asking my boys to lower their volume when I could get through the messy space to them had a pushchair with me. Left feeling judged and hurt, with crying children wishing they were 'normal'.nHad been told afew days ago that the library was a safe space for children with neurodiversity.
Lovely library with plenty of books to choose from. Great coffee and something to bite while sitting warm and comfy and losing yourself in your book.
It was cool. There were 4 young guys sitting at a back table playing cards and chatting away. It sounded nice and cheerful in the background as I was looking for books. Then an elderly man went up to them and told them off for being noisy. They looked shocked and apologised. I thought it was uncalled for as they weren't causing any harm as the library was pretty empty. The days of insisting everyone be silent is well gone. It's now a warm safe place to take your family and meet up with friends.
I was impressed with the help I received from the staff today especially Isaiah.nI thought I had a really problem that has plagued me for nearly a week so it was resolved within 10 minutes.nThank you wonderful people.
The library is paradise. There is excellent coffee, helpful staff, and all those books. It is also pleasantly warm at this time of year.nIn summer you might want to read in the nifty courtyard or pet the cat who wanders through. Like I said, paradise. There are also computers available.nWhat more could you possibly want???
