It's a great airport with lots of food options and shopping. The Air New Zealand is really good to fly with a good amount of leg room. The staff is good and the immigration, customs and the baggage checks were clean and smooth. The eagle flying high is a highlight of the airport. They have Super Shuttles from the Airport which are cheaper than cabs and they share people and also have a good amount of luggage space for carriage.
Had a great experience midweek flying down to Christchurch for the day. Plenty of food/coffee options with friendly staff. Beautiful space with epic creative works decorate the main floor.
Wellington International Airport is a welcoming place. Everyone is just so kind, friendly, and welcoming. There are many cafés, eateries and shops, where you can spend your time while waiting. To highlight that the prices are really honest and basically the same you find in the city! Most importantly, I found everywhere clean and tidy!
Airport is usually pretty clean and tidy. Lot of cafes if you don’t have lounge access. Recommend Three Quarter Society, Peloton, and Best Ugly. You need to go through security to access the AirNZ lounge unless you are on the regional flight. Regional AirNZ lounge is often not open on weekends. Regular buses from the Airport two and from the city, most of the time are every 15 minutes.
Very nice and attractive airport. Multiple shops and full of facilities. I would love to come again. Enjoy the new addition of Lego dinosaur
We deliberately arrived early for our flight to have breakfast and watch planes and people. The Lego velociraptor Lego was literally amazing as an addition to Gandalf and the huge birds which we have seen for many visits to the airport.
A bunch of flights departing from Wellington domestic and ONLY TWO security check areas huge clog up line and passengers not anticipating this are late for boarding. Totally inefficient and makes me rething domestic flying... Rather drive and enjoy the towns in between plus the beautiful Kiwi scenery. So focused on scanning local travelers and absolutely lacking in process. Definitely driving next time. Terrible pics, I know... Paying mind to passenger privacy
“International” is a huge overstatement. WEL is mid size domestic airport, good enough to get in and out to capital city, with plenty of functional space, several coffee and food options, which are actually much better than other airports in the country. Security area for the bigger planes is a bottleneck, not very modern and not efficient with always long queues. If you don’t arrive at least half an hour before boarding you may miss your flight because of that. Regional gates on the other hand are straightforward with no security at all, which always amazes me in this country. “International” section is on the left hand side next to Jet gates and is tiny and not up to the international standards. Luggage collection downstairs is tiny and crowded. Ride share is 3 mins walk , while airport promotes useless cabs that none wants to use. If you are heading to city you can take Uber or bus , there is no other choice sadly and it’s only one road with always very heavy traffic, especially morning time.
For international arrival, don't miss the Weta display. It's located just out of the airplane before custom. There is a Vodafone store once exited selling prepaid sim. You can get Carshare Mevo here but best to reserve Flexi Collect one day in advance. For domestic departure, security screening only opens 45 min before flight departure time so don't get there too early.
A small international airport with many eateries. Great sculptures of flying Eagles hanging from the ceiling. As the number of international flights is not great, it is easy to get through security. Food is a bit pricey, but that's airports for you. All in all pretty good.
