International Buddhist College of Victoria,42 Rutland Rd, Box Hill VIC 3128, Australia. Formerly known as Fo Guang Yuan Buddhist Center.
Let the Buddha light shine in three thousand realms and let the Dharma spread in the five continents have always been the grand vision of Venerable Master Hsing Yun, founder of Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Order. To fulfil this vision, Fo Guang Yuan was established in 2002, in Box Hill, an Eastern Suburb of Melbourne Metropolis.
Thanks to the blessings of Buddha, Dharma and the Sangha, as well as the warm support of our Dharma protectors, Fo Guang Yuan was found to be inadequate to meet the demands of our growing followers over the years. In response to the request of our followers, the temple is vigorously looking for a new location.
A site at 42 Rutland Road, Box Hill, VIC 3128 near the railway station and the prosperous commercial centre of Box Hill was finally secured . This is targeted to be an important stronghold of Melbourne Fo Guang Shan to receive our followers.
The ground breaking ceremony of the new temple was held on 2 October 2009 by Most Venerable Hsin Pei, the 8th Abbot of Fo Guang Shan, and the construction has taken 1½ years to complete.
Venerable Master Hsing Yun, the founder of Fo Guang Shan, has given the name “Fo Guang Shan Er You Temple”, which literally means “You have your own temple” to the new premises. He says: “Because there are only a few Buddhist temples in Melbourne, Er You Temple will represent that you now have your own temple and your own place of worship. which when putting in another way also means “I have my own temple”.
Er You Temple is significantly related with Melbourne in providing its citizens with a fuel station for the human mind. When one feels troubled or puzzled, one can go to Er You Temple to pay tribute to the Buddha, to replenish your energy, to refuel for your life journey so that you can go farther.
The Grand Buddha Statute Opening Ceremony of Er You Temple was held on 10 November 2012 by Venerable Master Hsin Ting, the 6th Abbott of Fo Guang Shan.
