Such a great museum with a very reasonably priced $15 entry fee and family pass options. Highlights Perth's beginnings, migrants and fishing industry well, includes a celebration of winning the America's Cup, and hosts the Oberon class Submarine HMAS Ovens, an authentic Cold War-era vessel. Beautiful views of the Fremantle harbour and port. Good disability access, hands-on activities for kids over the school holidays, and regularly hosts fascinating exhibitions.
Extremely well put-together museum, I cannot say I've ever paid much attention to topics relating to the maritime but I found myself fascinated by almost everything here, and it really puts into perspective just how integral maritime activities were and still are to our lives with the variety of displays they have.nnIt's a real feast for the eyes as well, being extremely colourful and vibrant and making great use of its vertical space with all they have suspended in the air to give a great sense of the size of these things.nnDefinitely my favourite WA museum, give it a visit when you can
This submarine visit was quite something!nOur guide - Peter - a wealth of knowledge on the submarine field, as long as it was not a secret. :nWe felt how narrow spaces were, we snugged through doors, we struggled to go down steps for the missiles hatch, we seen their bunks, galley, toilet and shower, and the marvellous extra space and privacy that officers had and during two hours it was interesting to make us feel what kind of life have the submariners.nThank you for a unique experience!nhttps://www.mariagrigorescu.au/how-to-think-outside-the-box-in-a-submarine-visit-hmas-ovens-at-wa-maritime-museum
Visited during school holidays so it was semi busy, but it didn't feel crowded. I didn't know what to expect but everything was professional done and clean. I really enjoyed it and learning from WA's maritime history, particular the Australia II yacht. I brought my daughter along and she loved it as there were kids activities. Lastly, you will really appreciate the architecture and construction marvel to build the museum, it's really amazingly executed.
Went there on a Monday evening at around 3:30. Went for the James Cameron exhibition which was pretty pretty good, above our expectations. As a person who dont really follow his story much about the deep sea, this was pretty good to know how much effort he do for exploring the depth.nnThere’s few video exhibition inside thats worth the wait and watch. Some interactive video to and also the deepsea challenger space where James Cameron were in when he went into the depth.
